I meant to sell it, but it needs a repair first and I never got around to that. Now it's too late to sell it because the price has fallen below what I can accept, so I have decided to keep it for now. It's not too bad because I wanted a brighter lens for A7 (than the f/2.8 I have now) and also something with AF for family and friends and that would actually cost more than I can get for RX1. So I'll try and use it more and not think about the money I lost.

Good to see you back here Helena!
Hate is a such a strong word for such a great camera like the RX1. The only Sony camera without 11-7 compressed RAW files , right?

Thanks Wayne! I deleted that part and hoped no one had read it. It's mostly about the body and handling, but I'm not too keen on the files either. The rendering is too tame for my liking and the colors difficult to get to where I want them. Oh well, now I'm stuck with it and will try and make the best of the situation.

To me it's quite simple Helena. If I don't like something I sell it. Even if that means losing more money than expected/hoped. That you'll forget because you move on, but forcing yourself to keep using a camera you hate will constantly remind you of your mistake of buying it.

I've always loved your work with the rx1. It's a shame to hear you talk about it like that as I'd always thought you were able to get more out of it than most. However I do understand your points, I often feel like the camera feels horribleto shoot with but at the same time I wouldn't want it to be any bigger than it is!

No perfect camera's out there. I've got the A7s, A7, GR and X100t, and honestly out of all those, I enjoy carrying and using the RX1 the most of anything.
Just feels right in my hand (with added grip), its compact and easy to carry, I don't miss the EVF (though still do love the A7 series EVF's), and the lens just renders better than any other glass I own. Its also got the best overall build and quality feel. The X100t feels like kind of a cheap toy in comparison (it isn't of course).
If I could own, and/or only be stuck with one camera for the rest of my days, it would hands down be the RX1
p.172 #7 · Sony RX1, RX1R, RX1R II and RX1R III Image Thread
I am surprised you complain RX1 because as Robert said you make best out of it. For me, I don't use it regularly but only travel and I find out I can't ask for more for what it gives me. I can't say I like its color for portrait but it is still one of better ones I have and for landscape and travelling (any non human)fotos, I am less sensitive to color I guess. but your color photos shown here are fine, beautiful. I don't see anything you complain about
to my surprise, I seldom use it WO given the fact I seldom use it for portrait, (this indirectly show its limitation actually, though I do shoot WO landscape handhold at dawn) so I don't have complain for AF. I use it 95% AF, the stuff I shoot its AF perform flawlessly.
I guess it is all depend on expectation and usage, for me it is great but not for all people or all scenario.
GR must be a really great camera since you prefer it over RX1.

I feel the same. The RX1 has a simplicity that I have not experienced in any other camera. Yes, of course it has limitations - as does any camera - but when I use it regularly it seems to "disappear" and never get in my way.

I was just joking earlier. It is very interesting reading your comments about not liking the colors as I always like ypur shots with it and I like the colors of my RX1 better than my D800E and Canon cameras most of the time.
Are there certain colors which you find the RX1 has trouble with? How do the A7's differ in color footprint?
Anyway, it sure is nice to see more images of your beautiful snowy countryside! Maybe you can send us some of your snowy weather to our Sierra mountains here.

I agree with Helena about the RX1 colors. They often look not quite right to me. The yellow/orange and greens are the most problematic.
I sold my RX1 for an A7S. No regrets, but there's still no 35mm option for the A7 that's as good as the 35/2 Sonnar (if that's even possible). My current FE 35/2.8 is a flawed piece of cr*p compared to the 35/2 Sonnar.

The smallest, sharpest combo? Look no further. Get the RX1(R).

Hi Helena,
I am so surprised by your comments about that camera, you made it sing an way that few can and your images have always been wonderful compositions.
I had a similar issue with the Sigma Merrill 2 and 3, I bought them and struggled to find a way to get photos and colours that worked. I had them on ebay for some time, but with the release of the Quatro, there was no market for these cameras. However I have been cycling a lot recently in the Australian countryside and the A7 cameras and lenses did not fit into that kit at all and so I tried the DP2 and 3 again, but now they worked for me. In one sense the cameras were the same but the way I used them was different, plus I had learnt some work arounds for the seriously crap Sigma software. Now I love to take these cameras on cycle trips but they will never be part of my regular kit in other circumstances.

add me to the list of people who's surprised to hear your complaints about the files helena – i've always like your rx1 shots better than your canon, fuji, and a7 images in general (not that i don't really like those too). maybe, that's because you've been spending extra time trying to get the rx1 shots right?
another family shot as that's i'll i've been using the rx1 for lately:

What does wide open sharpness really do for an image ? Its not really apparent unless your posting 100% crops for the pixel peeping crowd.
I would recommend worrying a bit more about how a lens renders, its focus fall off, "bokeh" quality etc.
Unless your shooting resolution charts how does it really matter ?
Its liking wanting a car that just has the maximum horsepower. Its kind of a meaningless and empty thing without also having a usable torque band, the ability to actually put that power to the pavement, traction control etc.
You can have 900 horsepower, but if you either have to be about 6000rpm to produce it, or you just spin the tires at even half throttle, it makes it kind of a pointless bragging right

Thank you all for the nice and interesting comments! It's fascinating how different people can have such different views about a camera, but I guess that is why so many gear threads end up in bickering about what is best.
Jochen, you have a good point, but I think I will keep it anyway. Or at least think it over for a few more weeks.
Wayne, I wish we had any snow to send you. Not much so far this winter, but in an other area of Norway they got 4 meters of snow in just a few days!
About colors, that you don't see what I complain about is because I have fixed it in post processing before posting, or deleted the shots. I agree with Jochen that greens, yellow, oranges and skin tones are the hardest to get right. Especially when they occur in the same photo. A7 isn't any better as such, but I find it easier to fix.
Derek, that you prefer my shots from RX1 over the ones from my other cameras may be because with the others I often use wide angle and shoot landscapes, while with RX1 it tends to be more more details, small DoF stuff and people, which may be more your "thing"?
I have never posted any family photos here, because I feel they are just snapshots compared to others posted in this thread, but here are a few just as an exception. Btw., when I complain about colors it's mostly about daylight situations, not this kind of shots.

Nice work Helena. Actually quite a nice contrast to your 18/28 shots
I love the RX1. Its focal length, that lens, the Zeiss pop, the colours, the contrast. I love it all. I don't love the AF and startup time, but I can live with that...

Is it possible to offload images from the camera without removing the card? Im worried about removing the SD card so much as this is my "everyday use" camera.
