memzinla, I have an RX1 and an E-M5 with 10 lenses. Although I love my RX1, I could not be satisfied with it as my only camera. Obviously the RX1 image quality is superior, but as good as the RX1 is, in my opinion a complete M43 system camera setup can conveniently do many things well enough that may be difficult or awkward to accomplish with the RX1. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone here who is using an RX1 as their only camera...

I use it as a compliment to my Fuji System. Covers the 35mm focal range stupendously!

You have my reply to memzinla above yours.

The RX1 as you one and only camera? It works fine for me, and has done so for a year and a half. For me it was liberating to sell the E-M5 and a couple of µ4/3 lenses. Going back to a single camera with a single lens, but an excellent one, was right for me and for me at that moment.

It could be the same for other photographers not in absolute need of a plethora of lenses. For others it could be a limitation and annoyance. As of lately I have been thinking of perhaps buying a Panasonic GH4. The smaller µ4/3 format and FF are complementing each other very well. I'm not there yet though. It's still nice having one camera/lens only and work with that.

Memzinia - if you "...mostly capture fast shots with autofocus..." I'd pass on the RX1 if you have to choose between your EM1 and the RX1 due to budget constraints. While AF is very accurate on the RX1 once acquired, it takes it time getting focus. Nothing like the effectively instant AF acquisition on the EM1 and GH4.

On the other hand, the IQ from the RX1 is stupendous. A hugely disproportionate number of my favorite images come from the RX1, and I have a LOT of cameras and shoot a LOT with them all. I'd say the RX1 is not a bad choice if you want to do a one camera/one lens experiment.

Wow I didn't think I would get many replies so fast. I really appreciate it.

Reason I was thinking of the RX1 was because of the image quality + bokeh. I'm very impressed! I've noticed with pictures I've taken most of them, are wide. I think I'm fine from 24mm to 35mm. I just prefer wider.

I'm just very tempted by the RX1 because of the price. I thought it was a very good deal, but is that the regular price for it now in the used market?

Here are some of my pictures

I'll take the RX1 as your only camera debate one step further.... I use the RX1 as my primary camera for kids/family/travel. My second camera is a Fuji x100, which I mostly use when I go places that I wouldn't take the RX1. I simply cannot part with the x100. I like it so much better than the xe1/2. However, I am mulling over selling/trading the RX1 for an A7 or Nikon DF due ONLY to the tremendously slow AF and Sony's obvious unwillingness to fix it via firmware update.

So, although I have two cameras, they are both 35mm fixed lenses. I love primes between 24 and 50 mm and 35 is the sweet spot. I very rarely feel the need to go wider or narrower. Cropping/stepping backwards usually works for me.

Well I'm selling my MacBook Pro with retina display to try the RX1. haha. I don't use it much, and will likely downgrade to a MacBook Pro from 2012. haha.

Sometimes it comes down to quality vs quantity. I recently did some family photos with the EM-1 w/ 12-40 and 25/1.4 and also my RX1. Both systems worked great, though the EM-1 has some advantages with is frame rate, AF, range of focal length options etc.

In the end, I had about 10x as many frames with the EM-1, but , my favorite frames were from the RX1. The 35 Sonnar just renders so special, its a thing of beauty. The EM-1 pics were nice, but nothing special, looked like digital files from any modern camera.

You can certainly get a wider range of shots with a m4/3 system, and have access to ultra wide to tele focal lengths, but you also have to carry that glass, and have to ask yourself if the reason for going out is to photograph everything possible, or just to enjoy being out, and perhaps have a small/light camera to record a few aspects of it.

I've ended up having kind of a lousy time on some vacations because I was always hauling around my backpack, my tripod etc, and I always was stressed about being up and in the right spot for sunrise shots, sunsets etc, and then when it was cloudy etc I'd get all discouraged because I put so much pressure on myself to come back with all these amazing photos, like it was my job or something.

I felt like I came all this way, have all this gear, all this money invested, and should be able to produce great stuff. It makes the whole purpose of the vacation feel like its about work.

When I've traveled with just the Rx1, X100 or similar, I was a lot more relaxed and as I knew I could only shoot so many things, spent way more time enjoying just being there and time with family.

When you've got 14-600mm (eqiv) with you, and you feel you need to use it all, you sure work hard trying to find shots that would look cool with all those lenses.

With a nice fixed lens, I shot way less, but I still come back with lots of nice images and memories to share.

Also its really nice not having several thousand images from a week's vacation to have to edit lol
