$1400 is a great price, is that normal now?

Probably better than average, maybe around $1500 is more likely. I got mine right before Photokina so there was probably a larger supply due to folks thinking a RX2 or other cameras were going to be announced which they would sell their RX1's to buy.

Regardless, there has been a pretty steady drop in the used prices for RX1's. I remember back when I sold my first one that people were snatching them up even at $2400 or $2500 prices. Still a decent savings over $2800 I suppose.

On my second one, I think I was able to get around $2000 for it, which was kind of disappointing as I felt like it should of sold in a heartbeat at $2300 just months earlier.

Now it seems like the market has dropped well below $2000, and I think its leveled off. I doubt that even the introduction of a RX2 would really push the RX1 below $1200 because there is such a huge gap between the new and used prices. Someone considering a $1200 camera probably wasn't in the market for a $2800 camera.

Overall, at current used prices, be they $1400 or $1600, the RX1 represents an amazing value when you consider the overall high level of build quality, amazing Sonnar lens, and the FF sensor in a compact sized camera. Still nothing else like it on the market.

So to me a possible RX2 doesn't really seem to bring that much to the table at what would be twice the price of my current RX1.

The one thing that you haven't mentioned as a possible significant upgrade with the RX2 is improved AF. I use both AF and MF and after buying an A6000 I find that I use the A6000 almost exclusively for the times I need AF and my A7r exclusively for when I can get by with MF. I just rented an RX1 for a one week carry-on baggage business trip and, for the times I need AF, I didn't feel like the AF on the RX1 was quick or accurate enough.

Someone (Thom Hogan I think) mentioned that the algorithms needed for phase detect AF on a FF sensor are much more complicated that for an APS-C sized sensor so that is why we haven't seen A6000 level AF performance with the A7 series. But I'm hoping that Sony has made advancements so that their next generation FF sensors will have comparable AF to the A6000. If I'm going to use an RX2 for a carry everywhere camera, I would want better AF than the RX1 provides.

That is a good point Jeff. I certainly would welcome improved AF, and having owned the A6000 (AF nice, otherwise hated it) and A7/r/s I agree the RX1 isn't exactly speedy.

However, I actually find the RX1 AF to be quite reliable, at least when it can lock (not going to match the A7s in that regard)

My A7 for example would often lock, and do so quickly, but then the shot would be out of focus even though I got the confirmation box/beep. This was often rather frustrating.
RX1 on the other hand always seems to be right on the money when it does focus.

I don't know if I'd really want at least A7 level AF on the RX2, if its not any more accurate.

A7s seems very accurate and its nice that it can focus in low light and on low contrast subjects but probably not realistic for an RX2 unless Sony went with a high ISO/low MP design

An A6000 PDAF system could be nice, but I would have to wonder how many people really use the camera for fast motion, tracking focus etc.

Personally, even if the RX1 did C-AF and tracked well, I don't really know what I'd shoot with it because its a fixed 35mm lens.

C-AF is fantastic for sports, kids running around, dogs etc with something like a 70-200, or even a shorter tele prime, but just doesn't seem too useful with a semi wide angle, IMO

I use the RX1 for scenics and posed subject shots myself, but then again, maybe the reason I use it for those things exclusively is because it can't do fast action.......

I've got a two year old, so that has a strong influence on the camera features that I find attractive. If I didn't, fast AF would't make much difference to me except for my sports photography, which I don't use a mirrorless camera for anyway.

I admire Derek's (Sebboh's) ability to get so many great photos of his young kids using MF, but my MF skills are not as good, I find I often only have a one second window to get the expression that I want and the A6000's AF has allowed me to get some great photos. The A7r with it's slower AF and 1/8 second shutter lag is hopeless in those circumstances.

I'd really like an RX2 to be my take with me all the time camera for times when I'm with my daughter and when I'm not.

The more I use the RX1, the more I find I won't be able to give it up. Such a unique rendering style, love the feel of the files. More than an RX2 I wish Sony would put out an RX1 with an 85mm f2 sonnar.

One more bigger version from Bryce Canyon. Still have many I haven't even look yet.

BTW, going through a few lens with Nikon D810 along processing some Leica M9 file, I feel RX1's 35mm lens is optically the best I have.(Zeiss MP100 I had maybe as good or close.) Use to be great of Nikon's zoom 14-24-70 have no chance. Great 851.8G is a stop behind cross frame.

Leica 50lux and 28cron are great cross frame, but not as great as 35 sonnar which reach peak at f2.8 to extreme corner. (I said f4 before, but f2.8 is about the same)

In real f8~f11 world, many GOOD lens will do OK with sharpening. But look the file 100%, you can easily spot the off center difference
