Like some in this thread, I was the owner of the RX1 on multiple occasions (in my case, twice) and still miss it to this day. sure there are a lot of quirks that exist. But like anything worthwhile in life, you find workarounds and compromises. I miss the quality of the files, the small build, and the whole experience.
Since my time shooting the RX1, I've tried multiple Mirrorless cameras, m4/3, Fuji's, etc. even did the whole a7 with native Zeiss glass. Now I'm back to shooting a D810 because of the FR sensor but there are days that I loathe carrying around the bag. I've tried a backpack which is huge and not practical to use as a walk around (Gura Gear UNITA), just bought a shoulder bag that will be going back since it's also huge and expensive (Gura Gear chobe). I know physical dimensions dictate that larger camera and lenses will need a larger bag. Boy do I miss just carrying the RX1 by itself or in a small TT Retrospective 5. Looking at this thread last night rekindled my desire for the RX1, and I might either have to look at it again or hold out for the rumored curved sensor version. A curved sensor with a possible 1.8 lens, tilt screen, built in EVF and wifi would make it a great camera to use as a walk around and could possibly become a main cam since there are many times I suffer from paralysis analysis on which lens to use at a given time....Show more →
Could of written that post myself...
RX2 certainly could be tempting, but, coming it at probably $2800 or more is pretty steep, at least compared to the $1400 I paid for the RX1. Built in EVF would be cool, but, would it match the size and quality of the A7 series, OR, would it be more like the RX100 mk3 ? The later being quite useable, but not really enjoyable. As such, would it be a feature I really desire ? Slightly faster lens, which could be smaller also would be welcome, but, does 1/3rd a stop really ever make or break a shot ? Likewise, besides being technically cool, what real advantage does a curved sensor really bring to the table given how the current RX1 already has really good across the frame resolution. Do RX1 owners ever complain about corner performance ?
Tilt screen is sometimes handy though, I would wish for a touch LCD, but with Sony that one seems doubtful, and wifi while cool, and something I do occasionally use, is also a feature I don't use all that much.
So to me a possible RX2 doesn't really seem to bring that much to the table at what would be twice the price of my current RX1.
