I really think there are way too many sour grapes here over a body not really targeted at most of the FM user base. This is an prosumer full frame to complement the 7D. I can't believe Canon did not do a marketing analysis and determine there was a market for this.
This does not replace the 5D II, the 5D III did that. This is a new market prosumer full frame. Now if you wanna debate if this is better than a Nikon D600 for a prosumer that's a different story.

Yeah well... I'm VERY MUCH interested in an affordable FF camera. I would get the D600 if I wasn't already invested in a few Canon lenses that have no Nikon counterpart.
Is that what stopping you from switching? Just bite the bullet and do it. Sell all your Canon gear, recoup your money and move on. It is only money and if you are happier over there, it is worth more than the difference in monetary value. I am not joking nor I am mocking. Start anew on the other side and you will be happy. Is that not worth it?

I don't know if the D600 is the "better camera" but it's obvious their buyers will be getting more for their money. I think that's what everyone's being sour about.

Sure, as soon as you point out where I can get the Nikon version of my TS-E17L, MP-E 65mm and 100-400L.
1. Manual focus 5d "classic" users who want more mp or LV.
2. People who want a slightly smaller/lighter FF body.
Otherwise why wouldn't you just get a 5d3 or if your budget wouldn't allow for that then get a new/used 5d2 for less.
I guess that's about it. Canon marketing has some explaining to do.
1. We're around! Take a look at the 6D thread over on the alt forum. People will pick this up over the 5D3 due to the interchangeable focus screen. D600 isn't an option for alts.
I'm assuming that if the 6D takes the same kind of price cuts as the 5D3, it'll be about the same price as the current 5D2. The 5D2 used price will probably plummet, leaving everyone happy
It's a shame the joystick had to go though. Regardless, I am perfectly satisfied with APS-C ... Just can't bring myself to go FF and start paying $$$ for good zooms. I think I'll be with my 7D for a long time.

The 6D is an alternative to the 5D3 for me, I shoot mostly static subjects, maybe 5% action and my crop bodies handle non-static quite well. Much of what Gunzorro and Ralph have stated are right on point for my type of shooting.
My speshul physical issues, paralyzed fingers, preclude my use of most buttons, now I doubt Canon is targeting this cripple in particular, but at this price point it is very attractive budget wise for me to move into FF. I recently picked up DSLR Controller for my 40/50D and with my galaxy nexus attached the combo makes it easier for me to shoot in some situations; the 6D has this built in...lighter body, killer LCD with touch, GPS n WiFi...the only suspects are AF (i shoot center point mostly anyway) and IQ.
If the IQ is up to any 5D standards it's my way into FF and a bit more L glass, like a 100L macro, 17-40, 24-105 or 400L...in addition, the interchangeable focusing screens is a huge plus for me over the 5D3!
There are some folk who don't require top-of-the-line (except glass) to be happy, I'm in that category, I shoot my lady's creations (clothes, quilts, bags and jewelry, etc.) for her business in addition to my just-for-pleasure/fun images.
This 6D's reviews and posting here on FM will be watched closely before my wallet gets lighter!

What else is there to say about the camera? It simply has become the laughing stock of the gear-heads here.

The 5D3 is too big and heavy... most of the features mean nothing to me... I fully intend to replace my 5D3 with the 6D.. No, I am not kidding.

He has reasons to do so. They don't make sense to you but still, I don't see the need to ridicule him.

There's bound to be people out there who will love the WiFi\GPS, I can't say that I am one of them but surely they must exist...
Apart from the ever present Exmor sensor, only the dual cards and higher fps are features on the D600 that I would like to have. The AF could possibly be very similar, yes the D600 has 9 cross points but they are all centre biased. I'd like cross points at the thirds markers, that's where they're actually useful. Meh, I can't say that either camera really interests me. I just need to save more for a 5D3...

my Freudian slip of they day when I answered the question of somebody which 5D I owned? The new one! (MK2)
I feel like Canon safed me a lot of money this year, a couple of months ago I was decided to buy something new, now I discover that I have zero interest in anything of their new products

My bad, I'm in the boat that's waiting for prices on stuff like this to drop so I can purchase them. I figure that the depreciation of camera bodies is sort of a fact of life, and accept the decrease in value considering how much I use the camera for its lifetime.

In keeping with its 'slimmed down' feature set, the 6D's wireless will be 802.11b and it's GPS will be accurate to within a 25 mile radius. Expect geotagged results like "this photo was taken somewhere between the Grand Canyon and Sacramento.
The cynic in me says Canon released this model to drive higher-margin 5DM3 sales. The realist in me says Canon released this model to drive higher-margin 5DM3 sales.

exactly why i jumped ship (10 years w/canon) and move to nikon. couldn't be happier. for my shooting needs . . . i wanted a full frame body under 2k that could spot meter with all focus points and focus with all focus points. sure makes shooting senior portraits easier. the whole focus and recompose is/was too frustrating for me. i really liked the 5d2 but . . . life is so much easier these days.
the only thing i miss about canon is the 85L & 200 f/1.8 and the good people in this forum.
