In keeping with its 'slimmed down' feature set, the 6D's wireless will be 802.11b and it's GPS will be accurate to within a 25 mile radius. Expect geotagged results like "this photo was taken somewhere between the Grand Canyon and Sacramento.

The cynic in me says Canon released this model to drive higher-margin 5DM3 sales. The realist in me says Canon released this model to drive higher-margin 5DM3 sales.

Hahaha.

Nevermind the Wi-Fi and GPS ... Look at the AF! It only has 1 cross type sensor! The 7D has 19 ... How expensive are cross type sensors? I mean, they should be considered a norm by now.

I'm a 7D owner and would consider picking up a cheap FF body for portraiture work. The flash synch speed on this offering is a deal breaker for me.

All of the talk about Canon's supposed missteps and their certain demise really humor me. They have been steadily taking over the DSLR market (at least up until 2010) and these cameras are just a small portion of their business anyway:

As of 2010, Canon controlled 44.5 percent of the DSLR market, followed by Nikon with 29.8 percent and Sony with 11.9 percent. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_single-lens_reflex_camera#Market_share) Their market share may have slipped a bit last year but I can assure you that they are still firmly in the lead.

You are talking about a company that had $45.6 billion in sales last year and made a profit of over $3.1 billion. Their imaging unit contributes only 36.9% to their total sales and of this, DSLR's probably only contribute 5% to that total.

Yes, it seems Canon really doesn't know what they're doing. Having said all that, this camera will sell very well and I guarantee it will be sold out on launch day.

Still more of camera than most ppl can handle.

Yes its bit underwhelming, but as base for alternative lens its actually pretty good. Hope focusing screens are changable with more ease than 5DMK3. Cause with that AF it will be most likely needed.

Don't look at the 7d, look at the new rebel for crying out loud...

I doubt very much that a company like Canon relies very heavily on pro and prosumer dlsr sales when they sell milllions and millions of compacts, as well as all the other non-photo stuff they make.

But the fact is Nikon and to some extent Sony have both left Canon standing with their most recent models.

I have checked the 6D specs as well as I can and apart from 1 FPS, GPS and Wi-fi I can find no reason to buy this over my 5DII. The 6D is smaller and newer but the Canon tech hasn't moved on in four years.

Canon's edge over its competition is not always about butt-kicking products. Yes, the 1dx and 5d3 are great cameras. But Canon boffins are clever business people and know how to profitably segment its model lines and yet not cannibalize its own.

What really pisses me off is I haven't found the printer button yet. . .. :^) I am kidding to a point. In my field work I actually use it with a small portable Canon printer.

No lock for the selector?

Poor sealing if only for splash or dust.

Nice size for some types of work.

11 focus points with only one cross type, big downer.

Coupled with the 45 pancake you have a pretty nice small FF camera.

I use the SD card with my Leica. I DO NOT LIKE IT. It is slow to download when you have a lot of images, but they are inexpensive.

The D600 may have more points, but they're not positioned any better:

I generally use a single point that I move around as required, I could easily make do with a 7 cross point AF if they were in the fight places...

+1 (substitute "need" for "can handle" since they can just put it on full auto)

Canon knows its market better than 99.9% of the naysayers.

Yes this is my bugbear with all the non-1-series dslrs except my 7D.

Put the camera in portrait orientation on a tripod and there isn't an AF point anywhere near either of a portrait sitters eyes.

Definitely, nobody complained to Masaya Maeda about the 5D2 AF either ;-)

From DPR, this sums it up for me:

Whereas Nikon seems to have taken the approach of taking away as little as possible from D800 when creating the D600, Canon appears almost to have gone the other way, removing as much as it thinks it can get away with at the price.

It's too early in the morning to cry over a beer.

The points are never positioned "any better". The AF areas of the (D)SLRs have about the same dimensions (apart from shape, oval vs diamond vs something else), because the limits are dictated by the submirror sizes.

The croppers only seem better because the viewfinder is cropped more around the AF module that has similar size to the FF one. So there. Laws of physics and the design limits force the camera designers to keep similar dimensions. The 5D2 diamond and 1Ds oval will differ, but not significantly.

Umm, and unless I see some serious diagram, I don't believe that 6D has so big diamond. That picture seems like created from a 20/30D diagram.

The history of technology is littered with companies who once owned their markets but failed to remain competitive and now are just also rans or out out of business, companies like NCR, Novell, RIMM. Not saying Canon is going this route but past performance or market share is no guarantee of future success.

Agreed. 1/200 is bad enough, but 1/180? That kills it for me.

Looks like the f/2.8 sensitive center AF is not even cross type, just a vertical line sensitive.

Who would've thought Canon would release a FF camera with worse AF than their latest Rebel?

Sorry, I don't normally go Canon bashing, nor do I enjoy it. I'm simply very disappointed at the specs. They really weren't kidding when they said "entry level".

Something else to laugh at!

First you spend big dollars on the 5D3, even though it's features means nothing to you. And then you are willing to switch it for the 6D, which surely must be even more meaningless.

Oh well, each to their own.

Rickuz -- Your comments have a pattern of mean-spiritedness and rudeness throughout this thread. You wouldn't receive such a polite admonishment if you tried anything vaguely similar on the Nikon forum. You need to tone down your anti-Canon bushwhacking. I think we've got your point long ago.
