Having previously tried Sony's OLED head-mounted display (HMZ-T1) which uses similar OLED displays, and experiencing the problems you describe with it, it seems like the NEX-6/7 viewfinders would not be acceptable to me at all.

I think it's due to the NEX-7 eyepiece optics specifically and not necessarily the EVF technology. Perhaps it's improved in future NEX's.

Now, if this were a new interchangeable lens camera, and the lenses were kept that small, that would be incredible, but I don't think you can keep the lenses that small with a register distance that short and have AF and such.

The lenses would be larger if it was interchangeable. As other people have stated before, the 35mm f2.0 is probably sitting extremely close to the sensor. The lenses for the X-Pro 1 are a bit larger than the one for the X100. I'm suspecting that the 23mm f1.4 for Fuji's X mount is going to be a bit larger than the 23mm f2.0 for the X100 though it's kind of expected since it's a stop faster.

On the bright side, hey at least some photokina money. I'll probably be picking up the next Oly EPL as a backup travel body.

There's rumors that Olympus is going to update their 35mm equivalent lens soon. It might be a good pick up since you like that focal length.

The 23mm for X mount would be larger than the X100, even if it was f2. At f1.4, I'm expecting it to be quite a bit larger.

So it looks like really the size of a GX1 than a RX100. That's a pretty big difference. Extremely impressive but I can see that being much better handling.

So imagine a GF1 with a full frame Sony sensor.

I have put in a pre-order with my dealer. At that price level, with the components used, the results should be phenomenal, and 35mm is just my thing. I can't wait...

I am not even remotely a Sony fan, but I agree, this camera is VERY exciting.

Aren't you a bit over excited Philippe? Don't get me wrong. I want it to be phenomenal too, but we haven't seen a single shot yet made with this camera and we have no clue about all the used components. Just the sensor and the fact it's a 35mm zeiss lens.
If the lens is like their 24/1.8 for NEX it'll be just... average (if I remember correctly, you didn't like that lens either).
Bye bye phenomenal camera in that case.
However, if the lens is really superb... they'll have my attention for sure.

I agree, Jochen, we have specs only so far. But, as specs go, it is a dream camera. And yes, I want a ZM-like Zeiss, not a ZA 24 f:1.8 like. In my case, I buy from a local dealer, who lets me try things out as he gets them in stock. This means a pre-order is pending my satisfaction. He knows it, I know, and we are both happy with it...
I just can't wait...

Ok I see, that's nice of your dealer. It's always best to try something yourself.

That is a benefit that comes with supporting a local dealer rather than shopping from the absolute cheapest price anywhere in Europe and on-line...

In the US, you can try it from major on-line places for 30 days and return it if not satisfied. Very very few dealers will match that, must less exceed it.

I'm usual getting better service from online stores than from local dealers here... sad really!
The problem is that those local stores are quite large and customers are just numbers. It doesn't even matter how much you've spent there in the past.
Nowadays I mostly order online, because I've had numerous discussions with salesmen.
We used to have a smaller store in town here a few years ago and those people were offering great service. It's a pity they had to close it down.

Incredible. People have been DYING for a full frame compact since the digital revolution began. Now that it may be here, it's not good enough unless it is pocketable. Full frame, in your pocket. Some folks will never be happy.

I don't recall anyone wanting a fixed-lens AF LCD-only (possibly with an attachble EVF) $2700 camera.

What people wanted, at least here on FM, was a FF CSC, i.e. interchangeable lenses. The bad thing about this camera is that the presumably excellent lens will depreciate very fast, along with the sensor and the body, as new sensors are released. Even if there was only the only lens in the system, it would be great if it could be transferred to a new body, in 2 years or so.

Well, as long as it does not break, I am not expecting myself to want a new sensor anytime soon. I think my 16MP is more than I need already, so I would not "want" a new sensor. Of course, if something is wrong, then you are left with nothing, opposite to having a handful of lenses and "only" needing a new body. But if you are using 90% of the time one FL, and that is a semi-wide like the 35mm, then this might very well be the one camera, or at least the main camera, and a crop camera for other (tele-)application.

I'm not so sure. The four year old D700 sensor is still perfectly fine to me and I doubt that I'll ever need something better. Just smaller. $2700 in four years is $56 a month. That's noting for a great camera that you can bring every day.

The ZA 24mm F1.8 E-Mount is the highest resolving lens on the platform, it would be fantastic if this is near that level of performance. Its rendering beat the Biogon 28mm F2.8 G that I had.

+1, I'm a huge fan of the ZA24, but then again I love Sonnar's in general, preferring the rendering style to a Distagon or Planar style.

Had Sony put their 36MP FF sensor in the RX1, the case for not really needing an update anytime soonish could really be made, at least for me. FF24MP is so 2008 now. Sony should have put their absolute top of the line, highest MP muscle into this tiny package to really make a statement. My fear would be if I bought this on release, the updated, 36MP version would be out next year around this time. Of course, if you only need 24MP's, that's another matter.

The 36mpx might have corner issues and if that lens is even slightly have, it's going to look bad on a per pixel level. Given how many issues cropped up with the RX100 decentering, it probably would have been too risky.

I am fully content with 12MP to be honest, for my printing it is enough and as I am lazy to start cropping around I would love a 12MP, very low noise FF sensor, as long as it would be cheaper than the current ones and in a small package.
