I had the same issue with mine. Have you sent it back yet? I hate to be without my camera for too long, so I don't want to send it. I also notice that the batteries seem to die MUCH faster now too, like the camera is always drawing power, even when turned off.

I hate to be without mine too, which is why I haven't sent mine in yet. Also, I'm hoping that they'll issue a FW fix for this issue.

2 weeks and not a peep from them. Maybe they are waiting for the updated FW which is supposedly coming in a week or two!

Boy am I glad I waited...

The vast majority of people who've installed the new 7D firmware have had no problems whatsoever, so I'm not sure what you think you're waiting for.

This is an update to what I posted much earlier in this thread. Immediately after installing the firmware, I had a lock up/freeze of the camera. I've now used the camera almost every day since then, and I have not had any further instances of the lock up.

Also, though, the battery meter on the camera seemed to be working fine for about 3 weeks, but, in the last 10 days or so, I've noticed a couple of instances where the battery meter was operating in a somewhat flaky manner. On one occasion, when I checked the battery status, only one of the two batteries in the grip showed up. Removing the battery that was not showing up and reinserting it, got it to show up again. On another occasion, even though both batteries were showing, and, for both of them, it showed the remaining % of battery charge, for one of the batteries, the count of shots taken was stuck at 0. Again, when I removed that battery and reinserted it, the battery meter seemed to regain normal operation. Both batteries are Canon batteries, and, since I never saw either of these two malfunctions before the new firmware was installed, I have to think that there is a reasonable likelihood that the malfunctions are related to the firmware.

I hadn't used my 7D much after I upgraded. Had it out with me today just casual shooting. I got an ERR 80 and the camera would not function. Had to turn off and remove battery, then it recovered.

I read somewhere on a thread here (haven't found it again yet) that the error is tied with having Auto-Power-Off enabled with the new 2.0.0 firmware. I did have APO set to 1 min. I've now turned that feature off and I'll have to see if I get the error again.

I guess a temporary work around until Canon released fixed firmware.

User error clearly Les. How hard can it be to put a battery in correctly?

I think that you are probably partially correct. While it may have been user error, I don't think the error was putting the batteries in incorrectly. Instead, I think the error was not being able to press the menu button correctly when I accessed the "battery status" menu item.

It may be age related? Mine was one of the first shipping way back in October 2009. I wonder if the older ones are having the issues?

Updated FW coming in a week or two. A FW update for something that doesn't have issues, how strange.

My 7D is also one of the early ones, and I have had no problems whatsoever with the 2.0 firmware.

If Canon really has acknowledged a problem with the 2.0 firmware, than I stand corrected in my previous criticisms. But I'm not going to trust some bozo on DPR as the source for the claimed Canon acknowledgement.

I've had issues. If I let my camera automatically turn off it becomes unresponsive. I can't shut it off even at that point, it's frozen basically. I have to take the battery out to get the camera to turn off. I finally just set the camera to not turn off automatically and that is a temporary fix.

The 7D is quickly becoming the most infamous Canon camera isn't it.

I was having the same issue. I re installed the firmware and seems to be ok. I let it fall asleep 3-4 times and seems to be coming back to life properly. Didn't have time to test out really good but hope it works now.

Wasn't the so-called posting just pasting the facebook response form Canon USA tech about the upcoming FW.
