Updated mine earlier in the week, no problems and happy to see the new features available. The buffer clear rate is much better, so all is good...so far. I am going to do a re-check of all my lens MA settings tomorrow as I want to be sure that a "+2" with version 1.2.5 is still a "+2" with 2.00.

Les, after installing the new firmware, did you remove the battery for a few seconds to reset the firmware? Just curious.
No, I didn't. Was there something in the instructions that said to do that? I know that I've done, I'm sure, several dozen firmware updates over the last 10 years, and I've never done that before.
Ive got three Sigma lenses i used with the 7D, (50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4 and 150mm non OS), and would love to hear from other Sigma owners if there has been any problems with the new firmware.. Thats the only thing holding me back!

Now, you have me concerned that the error right after installing the new firmware may not have been a coincidence.

It happened one more time since that first time, but it was much shorter. The first time took several minutes before I could get the camera to restart. The last time simply required removing the batteries and restarting the camera, which started right away. Maybe the firmware just has to "settle" for awhile...

I have done Canon firmware updates going back to the 10D and they ALL required removing the battery after installing the update.
Hmm, I bought a 10D in 2003 followed by 20D, 5D, 40D, 50D, 60D, 7D and 5D2, did all the FW updates and never once required a PRAM reset (battery pull). Oddly, the cameras all functioned perfectly for years.

Likewise. I've had a 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 7D, 1D Mark II, 1D Mark III, and 1D Mark IV. I've done every firmware update available for each of those bodies. While I admit that I stopped reading the instructions a few dozen firmware updates ago, I've never pulled the battery, and I've never had an issue following a firmware update up until this time.
Yea, can't say what did, all I know is the pdf instructions that came with the update said to remove the battery. I'm just looking for a possible resolution...
If it is, in fact, critical to pull the batteries after the firmware update, I'm hoping that I should be okay because, even though it was about 10 hours later, I had to pull the batteries to clear the error before I took my first shot with the new firmware.

The main battery should be pulled, not the lithium coin cell. However, I've not always done that.
The 7D was announced on September 1st 2009. Almost 3 years ago. I'd be highly surprised in the 7D2 would not be announced on September 2012, AKA Photokina.

It makes no sense for Canon to release a major firmware upgrade for the 7D on August 7 and then announce a new version of the camera a month later. It's more likely that the firmware upgrade is a strategy to squeeze one more year (at least) of life out of the current 7D.

This is a very logical thought but AFAIK there was only one Canon DSLR which had more than a 3 year lifespan - The 1Ds3.

I use Sigma 30mm on my 7D. I have taken over 100 shots with the combo after the firmware update and so far haven't noticed any issue.
