Now, you have me concerned that the error right after installing the new firmware may not have been a coincidence.

I have had mine for a month or so, before firmware it was fine, yesterday it was fine, today it froze up, nothing would work, power on / off or any button NOTHING, re-installing battery it worked and I took approx 300 more shots. A FYI, a friend of mine has had his 7d for a year, we were together today, I was in 1 area - he was in another area and HE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, he also ahd just installed rev 2 a couple days ago. Strange strange strange I am going back tomorrow and so is my friend, we will advise if it happens again

I've now shot for 4 days since installing 2.0. After the initial error/freeze up before I took my first shot with the new firmware, I have had no other problems. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but it is troublesome to see that there are at least 4 reports of the same issue just in this thread.
Udated mine the day it came available. have shot both pictures and 10+GB's of video. Had changed battery before the video shoot. By the way the video was shot using the Canon 10-22, was pleased with the results. Was shooting at the Polynesian Festival in Virginia Beach.
The instructions definitely say "When the firmware update operations are finished, turn the camera <OFF> and remove battery from the camera for at least two seconds. This will cause the firmware to take effect..." In reading the posts I don't see anybody that did this having problems.

Well, I did that exactly to the instructions that a lot of other people never read, so you can now add 1 to the list that has frozen and the battery was removed and re-installed after about 5 seconds, upon which the date and time had to be set.
Here is an update on my freeze up/error situation. After having had the error immediately after updating the firmware and before taking my first shot after the update, I've used the camera every day since, and, in those 5 or 6 days of shooting, I have had no further issues.
Other than the deeper buffer, I'm not sure if any of the other updates will be meaningful to me, but the increase in buffer depth is nice. Considering that the 7D shoots at 8 fps compared to the 10 fps of the 1D Mark IV, I think that, after the firmware update, the 7D can actually shoot continuously at maximum frame rate for longer than the 1D Mark IV.

I didn't read the instructions--figured it was the same as all the other updates--but zero problems more than a week later. Incidentally, I had to set the time/date although I didn't remove the battery.

I didn't see the battery removal part in the instructions, so I didn't do it. I did have to reset time, date and time zone. No problems at all so far. Odd coincidence, I just got my Tokina 12-24 back from service because I was getting err01 pretty often, I got the lens back and did the update within a couple days. I' glad to have no err problems so far

No issue so far...did the update without lens on, and without touching the camera at all! Did not remove the battery (forgot to see that) but changed to another one later...Lens used so far: 10-22, 24-105, 85L...no test done with 100-400 or 70-200
Since those first couple of days and the 2 "err" messages, I've not had any further problems. I did shake my camera gently just to make sure that all of the firmware ingredients got stirred up well and that none settled at the bottom. The RAW processing feature rocks!

I've not found the raw proccesing feature . Where do I find it ? And how does it work.. I have found the jpeg resize . Handy I guess but I can't say I'll ever use it.
For me the biggest boon is the buffer depth.
I like to shoot dual format so I can quicky stick the jpegs onto my iPad. Now with the buffer depth upto 18 from 6 it makes shooting both types viable .
Yes I can (and did) get a full size mjpeg out of the raw quite easy . But now I can take a couple of steps out of my general workflow.
If I could only get my iPad to take just the jpegs that would be great. But at the moment you can't (although I may have found a viable workaround ) but any issues there are Apples fault and not the 7D (other than lacking a 2nd memory slot )
Oh by the way. I didn't take the battery out and never had an error afterwards. Of course I have since charged the battery so I have taken it out now. but it said it was fw2.0 before I did that.
Oh also I noticed that my MA settings were not touched . Which is a good thing as I forgot I may have to redo them and went out shooting yesterday with my 100-400 that needed a tad of MA before the fw upgrade. Good to see that when I checked (half way thru the shoot) that the setting was still there and correct .
FW 2.0 has been a disaster for me. I ignored my own advice not to touch it with a 10 foot pole and stupidly installed it last night. Now camera is essentially a paper weight. I have tried everything but camera locks up 95% of the time with err 20 with only the occasional random working shot.
I downloaded from UK I think and applied via CF card as I always have done and followed the procedure they outline as I always do and removed batteries, several times, formatted CF card, cleared all camera and CFn settings, tried two different lenses. Really p!ssed as I'm on holidays and 7D was one of my birding specific cameras. Luckily I have other cameras with me. I work at Canon in Sydney Australia and will take it in next Monday to see if they can put version 1.2.5 back on it or get it to work.
