Has anyone seen anything even mentioning an EVF or something along those lines? I am 'out' if it doesn't have some sort of viewfinder. And not a G-series viewfinder, those don't count!

aps-c sensor and pdaf with the ability to mount ef lenses, not revolutionary but sounds solid
How much compact would be such combo with large EF mount lenses? And how much different to Rebel for example? Rebel still will be beter, faster and with better metering etc. Rebel at least having normal viewfinder.

Canon's got really stiff competition from the Sony NEX and the Fuji. Let's hope Canon delivers. But I would say they would have to be daft to not release an EVF option considering the competing lines have one and user's find it a major selling point.

Well you have the ability to NOT mount your 600L on it.. and go for just the 22mm pancake..
Well and that would reqire another lens with questinable IQ. ability to put into pocket doesn't atract me anyhow. Most likely cheap Rebel with nifty-fifty would be producing better shots.

I just checked out the specs.... a 650D in a tiny box is not a bad thing IMO.
I agree! The Digic 5 IQ might be better than my 60D, and I've had a great time with that body. Plus I enjoyed the IQ of the T2i before that!
If I wanted an optical finder, I could always cart my 60D or larger sensor Canons. This looks like a fun/serious option, a step up from when I would take a G10 or m4/3 camera.
Seems to have good potential for me, right out of the gate.

Well the 40/2.8 pancake is as good as the 50/1.8, no reason to think the 22mm isnt going to be quality too.
You could always mount the 50 on this too, but then it would be larger...
This may not be ideal or even better than the sonys (though the PDAF certainly could be) but it will appeal a lot to those of us with canon lenses already...

Those leaked images seem to indicate no EVF built-in and no possibility of an EVF attachment option. If so, that is an Epic Failure. Composing via the rear LCD is simply unacceptable for a camera of this class. Others have made the same mistake too, although some allowed fro an EVF attachment. This indicates Canon is only concerned about getting people to move up from a crappy P&S rather than entice those that want a serious companion for their DSLR.

So much hate for something that hasn't been released yet. I'm guessing Canon did at least a bit of market research on this before putting it into production, and that their spec decisions were't just pulled out of their rear end. Just a thought... there's hundreds of thousands of people who are avid photographers jumping up from a PS that would love this thing (and don't spend their time on the FM boards like us!). Are the lack of some features an epic failure for photo geeks, maybe, but for the rest of the market it might be just fine.
Anyway, for me, I think this is perfect... small body and lens combo with a quality crop sensor. No EVF or flash to hang up on or make it larger. If Canon asked me if I wanted those things I'd say absolutely not. Sure, it's a compromise, but if I'm looking for absolute image quality or versatility I'll bring my 5Dii and a couple lenses. I'm just happy to see a tiny camera that can fit under my motorcycle's seat or in an already full backpack that will take great pictures in 95% of the situations I encounter.

Because only the j1/v1 uses pdaf at all and canons seems a better implementation.
And the j1/v1 are an epic failure. Who buys them? I mean some people bought them and then sold them. Even on the Nikon Forum no one is going for these. Everyone has been buying the Sony NEX and maybe the Fuji to a degree.
