I like it. As long as the AF performs well and the price is right I'm buying in.
I hope the body sells as a kit with the prime as well.
That's a good question. What will AF be like. The m4/3 and Nikon V!/J1 cameras utterly rule the mirrorless world atm, with Sony, Fuji and Samsung trailing badly on AF speed. Where has Canon aimed it's cross-hairs?

I'd be more interested if a flip out screen was included. Never used anything but DSLRs until the Sony NEX5N. The flip out screen is what makes these small cameras usable. So I'll be waiting for the M-3 or 4 version as well.

Everybody had better realize that neither Canon or Nikon is not going to destroy their core SLR business...
No, the competition is doing a good job of that for them. Canon just has to sit on its @ss and keep doing what they've been doing and their market will erode.
just so people can have a rangefinder style camera. Its not going to happen until SLRs are dead and buried technology wise.
IMO Canon already thinks the business is dead. The "X" series is the beginning of the end. Canon's market behavior supports this theory. It's just a matter of time now before the P&S market is gone, and expensive DSLR's can, and will, see their end sooner than later. I'm not about to sell all my gear, but the handwriting (a flashing neon sign?) is on the wall for any willing to look....
Frankly I don't see this happening either. There is a ton of money already invested in SLR in the pro segment and they would be foolish to make those customers eat it. Remember the FD to EOS angst, that will be a blip on the radar if Canon abandoned EOS today. The screaming out on the Net would be heard round the globe.
This is targeted at the same users that buy 4/3 and Nex. They want something better than a P&S but don't want all the features of an SLR.
Based on my own experience, these digital viewfinders bite it compared to just looking through an SLR. Never mind the travesty of trying to take pictures off the screen on the back on a bright sunny day. You can't see the picture nor the settings most of the time. I had a Panasonic GF1 for exactly 1 year and went back to an SLR....Show more →
Agreed, this is a loser for serious photographers (not the intended audience) unless the screen tilts/swivels, and has a "magic mode" to allow you to see the screen. The latter, at least, is doubtful.

kewlcanon -- Those specs look pretty KEWL! Much more powerful and flexible than the G1X (which has interested me). A mini T4i -- what's not to love?
I do like an optical viewfinder (or an EVF would be nice), but I find from using G10 and M4/3 cameras with AF lenses, the LCD acts as a pretty good framing aid, and I can usually be assured of correct focus with wider angle to normal lenses. Should still work here with a souped-up P&S with large sensor and interchangeable lenses -- hey, that's no P&S!

Yeah, I have OM-D but I think I'm going to switch over to EOS M pending reviews of course .

ONLY 1080 30p again! Canon has yet to introduced a single 1080 60p for the consumer market - years behind the competitions.
Sony, OTOH, has introduced many cameras with 1080 60p HD: NEX-7, NEX-5N, A77, A65, A57, camcorders, P&S cameras. A99, a FF with 1080 60p with full-time PDAF is coming in August.

In addition to my EF lenses, I'm looking forward to mounting my FD lenses via aftermarket adapter, as well as other Alt lenses! Looks like fun. (Hey, where is Mr. EOSfun, anyway?)
I do wish it had IBIS though, to benefit the Alt/FD offerings available. But 18MP APS-C is so much better than 16MP M4/3, IMO.

Canon don't even include a lens hood for non L series lenses, so don't expect them to include the flash for free!
The leaked specs seem to say that the flash and adaptor are included. Kudos if yes. Including the adaptor would be a smart move for canon actually, get people buying more lenses.

I think it looks neat. I messed around with the cheaper Nikon mirrorless at our local shop yesterday and it seems to beat the pants off a P&S. The little 22mm prime is pretty cool too. I could really see this being my next P&S. I don't always want to carry a full DSLR rig around, and there are so many more limitations with a P&S. I'd want to see it in person, but I could see this being really fun.
