If this is APS-C sized sensor, I'm interested.
Interested to see the 40mm pancake with the adaptor mounted on the body to see the size.
For those wanting a viewfinder, but a loupe like a Zacuto or whatever.
This will be way better than any accessory viewfinder anyway.
Although it is bigger to carry around.

If I bring a Loupe than the whole kit is much bigger than a Rebel - why bother?
I have the SmallHD kit (instead of Zacuto) for careful field work on landscapes. I don't want to carry the whole stall with me if I buy the "M." I want a compact all-in-one solution. It needs an EVF.

J1/V1 is a not popular because Nikon was so smart putting an itty bitty sensor and not enough lenses. The same thing with NEX line up, fine sensor but as ex-owner I was having problem getting quality lenses.

And the j1/v1 are an epic failure. Who buys them? I mean some people bought them and then sold them. Even on the Nikon Forum no one is going for these. Everyone has been buying the Sony NEX and maybe the Fuji to a degree.

If it can't focus I'll consider that epic failure. I've shot with E-PL1 and E-P3 they don't have EVF and I did just fine but that's me though.
Exactly -- I've got the E-PL1 and E-P2. I do wish I had an EVF sometimes for Alt manual focus lenses. But with the m4/3 AF lenses, I just happily snap away. It's kind of liberating. 12MP sensor is a big limitation, so 18MP sounds terrific.
Now, if the price will be nice, I'll think about it seriously.

Good point - none of these players seems to be serious about putting out *native* lenses until they see how sales go. I doubt Canon will be any different based on the two native lenses announced so far. At least Fuji seems to be saying they are releasing a whole bunch of new native glass. They are going in full force. As for the rest of it - we're talking adapting glass.

But Canon has a whole stable of EF-S and EF lenses that can immediately be used on the body via adapter -- just like having one of their APS-C DSLRs. Are you missing the point here? Who's to say there couldn't be additional models later, some with EVF? Very short-sighted to say it must have this or that or it is a failure. (I think I'm starting to understand your Dickensian beggar bowl avatar a little!)

So did Nikon. After the failure will they have a higher end follow up?

I think you keep missing the point that this is not the tiny sensor J1/V1, so it's not the same situation between Canon and Nikon, not from my perspective anyway.

That's a good point - all things being Equal an APS-C is better than a sub-APS-C sensor. And the 18MP APS-C sensor does make this interesting for sure.
But the main complaints about other failing mirrorless options are:
1) Lack of native compact glass
2) Lack of EVF and good auto-focus
What I'm saying is there is already serious competition in this space (Sony NEX/Fugi) that can accept a whole stable of glass and have EVF options. We don't know but is Canon offering less here? If they have only two native glass options and no EVF option what makes the "M" more attractive?
p.11 #11 · Canon EOS M - Canon mirror less leaked images
The EVF in these cameras remind me of the first generation AF cameras. They had "AF" but it was useless in critical situations.
Honestly I could care less about a half ass tiny little EVF on a camera meant to replace my point and shoot. The large sensor, iPhone type LCD, and the tiny little F/2 lens is what matters.

How much are the CV hotshoe mounted OVs for Bessa going for these days? Could n't you just put one designed for 40mm FOV on this, and do a bit of cropping and call it good?

Not sure why you are leaving out Olympus and Panasonic, but they leave Sony for dead on native glass options, and both Sony and Fuji for dead on AF performance and newest sensor is much improved. Fuji is going all out on glass which is great. but it's seen as a poor man's Leica system with expensive glass and really only makes sense a total replacement for your DLSR given the cost of membership. As for EVF it took Sony quite a while to offer one either built-in or as an optional attachment, something m/43 had from the outset. Samsung also made a monumental error with their NX-200 coming out after the NEX 7 without an EVF option.
Imagine trying to frame shots via the rear lcd while you have your large adapted EF lenses hanging off the camera. Only the fans bois could find this acceptable IMO. It might work for a tiny P&S where weight and balance isn't an issue and you hold the camera quite steady, but not for a camera with the potential to use heavy glass.

The video is in Italian, but from what I can gather the leaked specs are correct.
Looks like a few different colors, and a EF adapter. The adapter is a bit large, though. Doesn't seem to be an EVF for all you that want one. I do like the size of it with that 22mm lens, though!

Here's a screen grab I took from the video showing the 24-70L II mounted via the adapter. Yeah this is going to be an easy combo to hold at arms length and get tack sharp photos while composing via the LCD

Actually I think this latter point is easily dealt with. EVF or not, there is no way a camera as small at this can be comfortably held by the body when a heavy EF or EF-S lens is mounted. But it should be very easy to support entirely by the lens: hold the camera and lens (by the lens) in one hand and focus and shoot with the other hand using the touch-screen.

Plus a pair of bifocals so I can get close and personal with the LCD and a paper bag to block the sunlight. Bi-Joe That'll get 'er done!
Come on Canon! I know you told us you can't do medium format. I get that. But you have everything in your power to beat the snot out of all the other small form factor solutions - at least on the camera end - I don't know about lenses. But on the camera end - you could have totally nailed a Leica M and made it your bit... Oh wait - rated G here...
