Thanks Carstenw and Ahamb for practice judgements.I have the same experiences and this lens: Apo-Makro-Planar smokes all my 35mm lenses in all aspects.

Just one note: I just sold my Contax 645 120/4 Makro-Planar (*sniff*), and had a potential buyer asking how sharp it was. He had a copy which was not sharp on his IQ180 back, whereas his 35, 55, 80, and 140 were. The 210 and 350 were also not sharp.

I don't know if it was just his copy, and in the end, someone else bought it, so I will probably never find out. I expect that the lens is very sharp, even on such a back, but I am not sure.

If Apo-Makro-Planar isn't sharp in my opinion mustbe defected, this is designed for micro-photography, mine and Briantho's are extremly sharp at wide open, we even use it WO for any kind of shooting.Use it on 35mm it corrects some optical peripheral shortages and images are awesome good.
I think it's a must have lens for a Pro or keen user.

The aperture control is a problem for me, with my Nikon. I would have loved to keep this lens, but I don't want to shoot wide open all the time. Anyway, now it is gone.

...Not trying to be a kill-joy, just don't get caught up in a mis-informed fad. OTOH, if you really need a real 1/500s flash sync on any camera body, a leaf shutter medium format lens is the way to go.

So how does one do this with a medium format lens such as Pentax, Blad, Mamiya etc (not large format lenses with Copal shutters etc)? Presumably you have some experience using a leaf shutter medium format lens on a DSLR so I'm hoping you could share how to do that. Unfortunately I haven't yet found a practical solution so I'm eager to hear yours.

This is total bull.

Sweet ... that mythical rationale will help keep the supply up and the prices down.

This was a test shot taken not only with MF glass, but with MF glass on tubes (furthering additional contrast reduction) ... btw, it was NOT even a macro lens, and it was shot on the 5D Classic (ancient in camera years).
Sorry, raw no longer available ... I had to download this from a previous upload.

Well, since I once criticised the greens in one of your shots, it is only fair if I say that these greens are really nice.

We do know EF/-s protocols are the same from SA , so I decided to use the AF confirm chip for Canon on my SA mount. Before doing it, I did a large search on the internet , but the result was absolute negative, many guys confirmed that can't do such thing, due to of different mount throat radiuses between the two.
OK, I did it and get it now.Is that easy?.No, it is a big NO here. Before got the last success, I broke 3 chips, used 2 sets of epoxy glue and fortunately didn't get a single electric shortcut, that could kill SD1 Merrill in a fraction of a second.
How do I do it for my Leica Elmarit 135mm , a real solid lens, no room to hide a PCB.
Materials :
1- M42 to SA adaptor, get it on Ebay rather cheap.
2- AF confirm chip for Canon EOS , from Ebay also.
The Leica lens need to remove all fins.
A small cog is created at 4 h, immitated the rear of the SA mount to switch AF.
Measure carefully each camera's pin locations , then mark them on the inner SA mount throat.
Glue the chip accordingly the marks, for stronger, I created the base for the chip.
Wait 2 hours, then soldering a drop of lead on the 2rd chip pin, a little higher the rest 5 chip pins, then file it down to creat the plane as other 5.
Note: never let the 1st left camera pin touch anything, that's is very important like live or die matter .
It depends on the skills, if I don't have those, I do it many times untill get it.

Perhaps bending the topic a bit:

It is said that X-Pan lenses are really Medium Format design. Here is what can be done with the 90mm for macro on m4/3:

Thanks Harold for the info.Hasselblad was untouchable glory, with space Zeiss SA lenses
( C,CF,CFE), They provide the ultimate look into matter's wave lengths.
But X-pan is another period, it still bears that name and price tag but the whole products is Fujifilm made.
