We do know EF/-s protocols are the same from SA , so I decided to use the AF confirm chip for Canon on my SA mount. Before doing it, I did a large search on the internet , but the result was absolute negative, many guys confirmed that can't do such thing, due to of different mount throat radiuses between the two.
OK, I did it and get it now.Is that easy?.No, it is a big NO here. Before got the last success, I broke 3 chips, used 2 sets of epoxy glue and fortunately didn't get a single electric shortcut, that could kill SD1 Merrill in a fraction of a second.
How do I do it for my Leica Elmarit 135mm , a real solid lens, no room to hide a PCB.
Materials :
1- M42 to SA adaptor, get it on Ebay rather cheap.
2- AF confirm chip for Canon EOS , from Ebay also.
The Leica lens need to remove all fins.
A small cog is created at 4 h, immitated the rear of the SA mount to switch AF.
Measure carefully each camera's pin locations , then mark them on the inner SA mount throat.
Glue the chip accordingly the marks, for stronger, I created the base for the chip.
Wait 2 hours, then soldering a drop of lead on the 2rd chip pin, a little higher the rest 5 chip pins, then file it down to creat the plane as other 5.
Note: never let the 1st left camera pin touch anything, that's is very important like live or die matter .
It depends on the skills, if I don't have those, I do it many times untill get it.

Apo-Makro-Planar, @4.0 on Sigma SD1 Merrill Iso 100 1/2000s.
Nice wild flower found on the road, I drove by and saw it, stoped the car, drove back then shot it.

Thanks Harold, there is an untold rule for flower, lady and pet that I use the lens as much bokeh as possible .So only the good lenses can depict the details in the thin DOF.Using deep DOF by f/8.0 or higher the whole scene appears whithin the frame, causing a distraction from the main topic.IMHO.

Fair enough. I have never bothered much with bokeh, although I can think of subject material for which I might.

Thanks thminhduc and kkibrisli.
Before you buy a Sigma SD1 you must plan which type of photography, then the suitable lens. The SD1 owns an excellent sensor, it out resolves Sigma and Canon lenses, some others like Zeiss, Leica, CZJ and Russian Zeiss copies could match totally or partially. The best mustbe MF( medium format)Zeiss.Doing a conversion isn't an easy task as you might see.
I am doing it, so I know how risk it is and am doing it not alone, around me there are lathe mechaniks, electroniks, lens part retailers, who knows their jobs brilliantly, that I can count on, but they don't know my job in the whole - that's a big secret. So be considered before you take a serious jump.I could share some of mine for courageous people who can take their own risk as a reward.

Of course, you can still use the excellent optics via adapter (much simpler than conversion). You'll typically have to use them in stopped down mode (guessing same for Merrill) and won't have shutter priority or program mode. Manual and Aperture mode typically work fine.
Then if you REALLY REALLY want to go for a conversion as contas has ... go for it. Me, I'm too chicken to try such a conversion, but I still use MF glass on DSLR with regularity.

Im pretty sure some regular C/Y lens can feed SD1M too. Or Leica R. But either way, its going to be quite expensive, cause that sensor is incredibly demanding.
But, for example 35/1.4 Sigma was make for SD1M and now there will be 18-35/1.8 which again is made for SD1M.
Must say that resolution from SD1M photos always make me want to have one. Considering I shoot mostly flowers, I might get one.. one day.

This is all so interesting about the possibilities and difficulties with the SD1M
and also all the MF stuff. Thanks all!
By the way, can anyone recommend sharpening ballpark settings for lightroom to begin with?
I see that many have discussed photoshop settings on various threads.
Am starting to experiment and find that the settings I normally use don't seem sharp enough.
Took the plunge with a Mamiya 120 macro and feel like I am sinking into a foreign sea.
Any other suggestions for simple minded beginners?
