I love the low POV, makes the shot all the more frightening. - Randy

Awesome image... that being said ... will your estate benefit from the image sales should you continue to challenge evolution

Just awesome-super separation from BG

This is by far the funniest thing I've read all week!

105mm on a full-frame I'd have been using a 500mm with a 1.4 x TC on a crop sensor (=1050mm) at (a much safer) 10 times the distance

Stunning photo, though!

That's a great image Henrik, no evidence of camara shake as far as I can see which is impressive in the circumstances!

Beautiful pic but shot at 105!?! That's awful close isn't it?

Thanks. And yeah, it was close. But for the record (and I should have mentioned this when I posted the image initially), precautions were taken.

Wow!!! 105mm!! That bear must be well fed! What did you do after you took the shot? Hopefully stayed veeeerrrrryyyyy still. Thanks for sharing an awesome image.

Alan

Thanks Alan. I was part of a group. We were 'parked' and the bear approached. It really (and fortunately ) did not care about our presence.

Henrik...is this the one about being faster than the guy next to you?
Super shot and glad you made it home to post it. Interesting parallel with the grizzes back humps and the mountains in the distance.
Eric

Yeah, I put rocks in everyone else's boots.

Thanks Eric.

The Katmai bears are indeed well-fed---it's salmon running season and they are fattening up nicely about now. They have never seen humans as a food source so they basically ignore us.

Yup, spot on. Now I was told about a guy who wore a jacket he had worn while fishing a few days earlier. That wasn't a good idea. But the rules are very specific and they are to be followed (one rule is to NOT bring anything that smells like fish obviously).
