Henrik,

Perhaps you'll share some other images of your adventure with us? Katmai and the surrounding area is a fabulous place, as is much of Alaska. How was your weather? Bad weather is born in that part of Alaska and it can be very frustrating to a photographer. I've had many a day when the shutters were quiet, but when the sun shined I let those shutters rip...if the bears were still posing, of course!

Absolutely brilliant
Thanks for sharing and I second whoever it was who was impressed by the lack of camera shake

Super shot Henrik.

Hey Rob, thanks my friend. These guys sure are quite a bit bigger than the grizzlies I've seen before.

I love the low POV, makes the shot all the more frightening. - Randy

Yeah, fortunately the bear had no interest in humans.

Thanks for your comment, Randy.

This is by far the funniest thing I've read all week!

105mm on a full-frame I'd have been using a 500mm with a 1.4 x TC on a crop sensor (=1050mm) at (a much safer) 10 times the distance

Stunning photo, though!

Thanks Graeme (and for your PM as well). With the 500 and the 1.4x, you'd have gotten his eye lashes.

That's a great image Henrik, no evidence of camara shake as far as I can see which is impressive in the circumstances!

Paul

That's only because I had my camera bag to rest on.

Thanks Paul.

Very nice image, and I've done them myself...but only of a bear that approached me, not of a bear I purposely approached so closely. I'm sure this image is of a bear that approached the photographer, but I felt obligated to mention this important matter. Sorry if I offended anyone. I didn't mean to. Only mention this on behalf of the bears.

Your comment is very welcomed and appropriate!!! And thanks for the PM, Jim!!

Henrik, despite some of the criticism in this thread, you've been restrained, polite and professional in your responses. It's clear that you take your photography seriously, your welfare and the welfare of those around you seriously, and (perhaps most importantly) the welfare of your subject seriously. I take my hat off to you. Thank you for sharing this outstanding image.

Graeme

I appreciate that very much, Graeme.
