15Bit: I always try to combine work travel with some fun down time...it works for me
I got to travel out to Whitter and take in one of the glacier cruises, and the weather was perfect, so I really lucked out. I rented a 70-200mm f2.8 Mk1 for the cruise, and it did work out (T1i has no MA) from what I have proofed so far. The brightness range for capturing the detail in these images is a bit of a problem, so I will have to spend some PP time to really get them spot-on for my taste.
No moose nor eagles sighted yet, but one never knows what might be around the next corner...
Time to grab a good meal...King Crab and a tall cold one sounds good for a start...

Jerry, I really got a great window of weather here to get a fractional glimpse of what one can see and do in this section of Alaska. My big plan now (within a couple of years) is to come back during one of the peaks of the wildlife seasons, and floatplane into the more remote areas. I think I could handle this place during the April to October months, but all bets are off for the "dark period".
Spring is finally showing in Anchorage. The trees are showing signs of life with buds, the grass is green with speckles of yellow dandelion, and the float planes are taking to the air from Lake Hood.

JohnnyMike: Lake Hood is awesome; the combo of floats/tundra aircraft is quite a sight. I found a great place to eat also, "F-Street Station" near the Hilton. Great company with Larry & Carlos at the grill.

Since we are doing wintery shots taken in spring, a short contribution from me. Sadly its from May a couple of years back - no chance to be doing anything so exciting this year as my back has popped out again
The second one has an usually simple histogram. 350D with 17-40mm f/4L and 70-200mm f/2.8L.

I was at the St. Louis Zoo this week and saw some great stuff. Hope to post a few next week. Here's a close-up cormorant that I really liked.

Indeed, Psych has become so good with TIF shots that I can not compete any longer......so I have switched to CIFs now.
Handheld 1DMkIIN + 400 f/2.8 IS MkII + 2xTC MkIII.
Peter - that cormorant in flight was something special. I wish you would leave them up longer for others to see though. The black tones of the cormorant make them one of the most difficult birds to get good inflight shots of. I think cormorants and crows are the most difficult to expose properly.
Also, how are you liking the 400 II + 2x III? The image quality looks fantastic! How is the focus speed?

Thank you, Mark......the 400 II + 2xTC III combo emulates 800L pretty good, although the IQ as well as AF responsiveness are a bit inferior......but just a bit.
Neither lens/combo is good for faster targets.....I've found 800L to be frustrating for BIF, and 400 II + 2xTC III is very frustrating for BIF.......that's the main difference.
