Profeel sent me a kit box with the lens removed. No concerns on my part, but again I wish they would have told me they were going to do this. Be aware there may be other retailers doing this as it seems there are far more kits than body-only out there.
I got one like this as well. Quite startled me at first thinking, oh no, I'll have to return it as I already have a 24 105, but when I opened it, they had removed the lens. I wonder how they are going to sell the lenses without the boxes? Also, makes me worry about the price of your 24 105 holding if there are going to be alot of them no one wants.
Haha... all of these "kit" lens combos on 5DIIs and 5DIIIs are going to KILL the resale price of the included kit lens. It's already happened with the 28-135 IS. You can now buy that lens brand spanking new on the forums for $250 - which is $200 less than retail. Nobody wants it.
The 24-105L is going for for $800 brand new on the forums - which is $350 less than retail.
Kit lenses make a lot of sense for lower end camera bodies, but on a $3500 5DIII, it does not.

i ordered from best buy a few days ago after canceling my BH order,I still havent gotten any info from Best Buy regarding shipping etc...
Their e-mail system must be screwed up. I ordered mine via telephone with Best Buy and the rep told me that I would be getting a confirming e-mail but it never came. I had to call them back and get my order number so I could track it online. The rep confirmed that mine would be arriving at the store April 2nd.

Don't order from Best Buy. Check the web to see if a brick-and-mortar Best Buy store near you has it in stock and then go pick it up. Ordering a camera from Best Buy's webstore is no different from ordering one from any of the other big mail order stores. Best Buy's web store is a completely different operation from their brick-and-mortar stores.
You want to take advantage of the fact that Canon is distributing widely to brick-and-mortar stores. A lot of those do also have web storefronts...use that if it's available. The point is that even the small brick-and-mortars are getting their share of cameras, but they have few (if any) people on their waiting lists.
what an interesting couple of days....
decided to take the plunge on the 5DMIII, and decided to order from Best Buy...
Went online and found that the body only version was available for In Store pickup only (no shipping available)
Found that only 1 Best Buy store in Ohio had 1 in-stock...when i called and spoke to someone at the customer service counter to confirm, they were surprised that they even had it....they went pulled it, and offered to put it on hold for me.....I agreed to the hold, as this Best Buy was 1.5 hours from me....they agreed to hold until EOB today (sat), even though there policy was to only hold until the close of business the same day the hold was placed.
while talking with them, i also got them to extend the 18 mo "no interest financing" to 24 mo!
So fast forward to this AM...I call the store to make sure they still had the camera on hold, speak with someone completely different, explained that the hold had been placed on the $3499 camera...she immediately says, "yeah i heard about this, and unfortunately, we had a BestBuy.com order come through, and had to sell it this AM"
Wowzers....now I'm pretty upset, as you can imagine (remember, only "body only" version in the state of OH)
So I remember that the customer service rep from yesterday was working directly with the general manager of the store on the extended "hold" and additional 6 months financing...and ask the poor girl on the phone to have the general manager call me when he comes into work today...
GM calls me, apologizes, explained that the "hold" didn't remove the item from their online inventory, and that unfortunately it was purchased and picked up this am....
I explain that I am upset, and very disappointed...he said he figured I would be, so he had been looking at his options...said that he couldn't even order a replacement camera body, as there is absolutely no stock available (?)
then he says, i can get you the body + kit lens ordered today, and to make it up to you, we will split the difference in price with you....4299 - 3499 = 800/2 =$400!!!
So i got the 5DMIII + 24-105 kit for $3900...i will take it!
They took my info over the phone, ordered the camera, and offered to have it shipped directly to me, rather than having me drive 1.5 hrs to the store...
I know BB gets a bad rep...and I have been on the receiving end before...but the 3 people i dealt with on this purchase made the right choices and treated me like a valued customer.
now i just have to sit back and hope this thing comes sooner rather than later!
Just got mine Friday and had a fully charged battery to put in it. I got the kit. So far I am liking what I am seeing. I held off on the 5DMkII for a while waiting on this. Sticker price was a bit shocking but it is a very nice unit.
I need (okay, want) to have a 5dIII delivered by April 20. I would prefer to but the body only. Does anyone know where the body only would be available? I am okay buying the kit and selling the lens, but would prefer to not have to.
Thanks in advance.
