I told you guys long ago to hit the smaller stores, not B&H or Adorama. It's the same way Canon has always distributed the 5D series--shallow and wide.
You're right RDKirk - your always right!
B&H finally shipped my 2x 600EX-RT flashes. But my 5D III and other gear is still on back order at B&H. I can't decide if tomorrow I should jump ship on the 5D III and buy one from another dealer that has it in stock or not. Hmmm....
I received my 5DIII body today from Amazon ... ordered on March 3rd. I guess this means that now that I purchased at $3,500 against my best judgement, the discounting will start soon. Amazon must now have commitments for 5DIII's to ship for a while, web site is now saying usually ships in 1 to 2 months.
The link below is to Amazon's DSLR sales rank page:
I've been watching this for a while, the Nikon D800 has been on the top of the list for at least the past week or two. The 5DIII worked it's way up to 4th for a day or so before falling back to 8th.
I wasn't able to pre-order but now I'm ready to purchase a body... But I cant decide who to order it from, I would love to get it ASAP. After talking with a few people, It sounds like the only way for me to get it soon is to order a kit...?
Anyone know who has "body-only" in stock?
I'll check best buy soon, but their site is down for maintenance. I'll also check out texasmediasystems.com as well.
I would love to order from B&H or Adorama but I have no clue when they'll get more in.
last night i ordered a 5D MK3 from Best Buy and cancelled by BH order this morning,I recognize that the BH order might ship at any time but I also recognize I have no idea and they seem not to as well.....at least this way I know I will get it in a few days!

The kit is approx $800.00 more than the body. The 24-105mm f/4L IS USM retails solo for 1149.00. Presuming you can find someone who wants the lens you should be able to set a price somewhere between these two values equally attractive to you and the buyer. YMMV.
I pre-ordered with B&H on March 4th but have no clue when will I receive it. BestBuy's website is down for maintenance until 3:00 pm today. I am thinking of cancelling my B&H order and ordering from BestBuy this afternoon.
A few camera stores are willing to split up the kits i.e. they'll sell you the kit, remove the white box lens and credit you $800 for the lens. That's a pretty good deal since you would be lucky to get $800 for the lens on FM B&S from what I can tell looking at transactions. So you may want to ask your reseller if they will do this.
Profeel sent me a kit box with the lens removed. No concerns on my part, but again I wish they would have told me they were going to do this. Be aware there may be other retailers doing this as it seems there are far more kits than body-only out there.
I got one from Profeel the same way. They did tell me that they were going to do this when I called them and I have no problem with it. Otherwise I would wait a few weeks until a body only was available. There are far more kits out there than body only.

It's a great time to be a buyer of the 24-105 lens! There will be lots for sale for a while.

also waiting for the damn battery to charge.
why is the VF dark when the cam is off?
It's the LCD overlay on the viewfinder. When the battery is out of the camera the viewfinder appears dark but when you put the battery in (even if the camera is off) the viewfinder clears up. The same thing happens with the 7D.

Which is a reminder that the camera is never really "off." According to Chuck Westfall, the on/off switch merely instructs the camera to "ignore all other user controls." Otherwise, the camera is still powered up.

I cancelled my pre-order with B&H yesterday. I am going to try the Nikon D800E first (I think.) Still have 7 Canon L lenses + 3 other lenses though .... So just dipping my toe in at first.
Anyway. They said that I would probably receive a 5D3 by the middle of next week if I stayed on the list. I ordered around 10:50 am on March 2nd.
Order number around: 1019758440
They must be getting a lot of cancellations.
He told me not to buy from a place that posts a lower price, look at reseller ratings, etc. I told him truthfully that I only placed 1 pre-order through B&H, and that I was not buying one now, but waiting on my D800E pre-order through them.
