Got my AFS 85mm/1.8 today.
Did a quick check and compared it with 4 other 85mm lenses.
AFS 85mm/1.8G
AFS 85mm/1.4G
AF 85mm/1.4D
AF 85mm/1.8D
AiS 85mm/1.4
imho, the lens draws sharper than the others used at max aperture.
If interested on the full size D3x image of the AFS 85mm/1.8G photo shot with a f-stop of 1.8.
Please be aware, that the 6048x4032 file has a size of 10 MB.
Based on resolution, it looks like a good lens. More to come.
Wow, What a lens. Are all other set at f1.8? or they are wide open? Would love to see them at 1.8 to compare. Though based on what I see here, they may just match 1.8G here if lucky.

What I have seen so far on the web, bokeh seems to be harsher than the 1.4 version (unsurprisingly). Usually stopping down a bit helps a little to smoothen things.
The transition zones have a similar smoothness to the 35mm f/1.4G and I haven't seen much of the harshness you can find in the 85mm f/1.4G I really like the rendering of the looping branch on the right side juxtaposed against the totally OOF background.

Here is a link to a review. The link I provided shows many examples of the lens at different apertures. There are a cople picturesmshotmat f1.8 with harsh backgrounds. The lens appears to do pretty well.
I'm impressed with what I've seen. This might actually be tempting enough to forgo the Rokinon 85 if I buy another 85mm lens. Matched up with the 50G and new 24, 28, or 35 f/2 lens would be just about everything I'd ever want from a set of AF lenses.
Here is a size comparison of the 5 85mm lenses. The new 85mm/1.8G has almost the same dimensions as the previous AF 85mm/1.4D (but the weight is lower). A consequence of getting the AFS motor into the lens and moving from simpler optical designs to more complex ones. The old AF 85mm/1.8D had a 6/6 design, the new lens comes with a 9/9 design.

The files are zipped by lenstype. Each .zip contains 6 files. The first is shot with the respective max aperture (1.4 or 1.8) followed by 2.0, 2.8, 4, 5.6 and 8.
