Its good to hear people are getting their shipment from Amazon. I'm still on the waiting list and hope to get a shipping notification soon (fingers crossed).
after seeing it pop in and out of my goldbox a few times I finally ordered it the other day with my goldbox discount. Cant wait for it to come!
This is a photo of Copper playing "stay"...a treat is placed on his nose or between his eyes and he waits until I tell him to take it. And yes, he loves peas...LOVES them...
And word on flare performance? That is the only thing stopping me pulling the trigger, I shoot backlit a lot at weddings and if if it flares all over the show I'll be pulling out my 70-200 all the time.

andy, with a collection like that you the man to ask, i use the 85 1.4d on my d700 and am rather fond of it for candid shots. it's not on nikon list of d800 recommended lenses but its old so that may be it, do you think it'll up to the 36mp (d800e) party shots stuff or would the 85 1.8g be a better bet? i usually shoot 1.8-2.2 but the oof highlight on the 1.4d are the biz! plus the afs will be nice on the v2 when it turns up...

wow, impressive! I probably won't give up my Sigma 85, but I preordered one very early because I do like having smaller/lighter options.
The new 50/1.8G is terrific also, hopefully they'll update the 35/2 next!
I really don't understand why Nikon hasn't updated the 35 f/2 sooner. The 50 1.8G was terrific upgrade. I can't wait to get my hands on the 85.

They seem to be slow with their upgrades, hey? Although you look at their super-teles and they're already on the second G version for most just to add VRII and Nano...
I too would like a 35/2 update or possibly a 35/1.8 FX (I know they have a DX version which is a pretty good lens as is).

Great shot, Sam I LOVE that game!
Still no backlit portrait shot from anyone? I may have to purchase one a test it myself so I can make a decision.

I have the 85G since two weeks and its an amazing piece. Before, I posseced 2 x 85. The 85 1.4 EX sigma and the 85 G 1.4 Nikon.
Since I got my hand on this one, I sold both simply because he is VERY sharp and very lightweight.
How does AF compare? I was shooting a wedding recently with very dark reception and the 50mm f/1.8G could focus hunting occasionally but the sigma really struggled on anything but the centre point.

+1. Nothing turns me off so much as lens flare.

According to lenstip there is significant ghosting and flare when the sun is at the corner of the frame. Unfortunate that they did not test with a bright light source more in the centre of the frame.
