Just found the D800 in my Amazon Gold Box. $2849!
I have a bunch of star wars legos and a film is not dead book.
I haven't had a camera body in there for a long time now.

Had a quick chat with a Nikon rep today at my local store and he told me I could expect to receive my D800 on the 22nd of March. While at the store I pre-ordered a D800E too, that one I'll have to wait a bit longer for. The first batch of E's are expected to come in April 14th, but since I pre-ordered today mine will arrive much later.. But I think I'll manage with my D800 and D3X till then
I did it backwards, I preordered the D800E early on and just put in for a regular D800.

Very tempted! But man it would slow things down with those file sizes. Just for kicks I downloaded one of the 23mb JPEGS and ran noise reduction on it. What would normally take 5 seconds took like 20.
What pc are you running? Did you run them from a hard disk? I wonder if an ssd would help, or whether it's just your cpu that's the bottleneck.

Is the option to not be able to shoot less than 36mp in RAW getting to anyone? I've pre-ordered, but it is a bit of a bugger really.
I assume you mean a 1:1 reduction in size. They can still be reduced in post.
Comparing the RRS L-plate for the D800 versus D800+grip, it would seem that neither the materials nor the fabrication should be hugely different, but the price sure is: $140 to $190. Seems a little odd to me.
Good thing for me I don't need an L plate (or a grip for that matter). I had to buy one for my 1D4 for one event and then it took months to find a buyer for it.

interesting, I feel like I have seen WTB listings for d3 L plates quite often and usually when one is listed it gets snatched up fairly quickly.
I am waiting too.
I live in Denmark - and the situation is the same. Everywhere there's a line.
I ordered a bit late (March 9.th) and have no clear indication when I will get it. Might be as late as August But my dealer said he believed it would be in mid-April, but said repeatedly that he wouldn't promise a thing.

I live in Norway. I ordered my D800 from MPX, and they shipped it today. It'll be in my hands by friday. Can't wait!
Really? I pre-ordered from Fotovideo on the day of release and I'm high on their list.
Called them today and they doubted that I would get my camera this week.
And I live close to their store..
This story I share is pointless, but alas, here it goes. On the day, and night that the Nikon was announced for preorder, I had my ship jumping debit card ready to buy, I therefore proceeded to hit confirm, sat back elated at my B&H trusty buy, and somehow my pay pal debit had an issue so it was declined, as I died xD. Next, I proceeded to click, tap, and drool away with my bankcard, but, for some stupid reason unknown to me, I decided to just wait in case, just in case, never listen "just in case", as I am here stuck without a Nikon D800, and selling my bought for point and shooting 5D MK I, until my sick D800 came
This will give me a little more time to sell off a few items and save some funds to purchase one of these bad boys! Sorry some of you guys are waiting so long
