Finally received my D800 today, and by the look of it the store got quite a few units today.
When I was there this afternoon I saw 3 other guys picking up theirs.
Currently doing some tests with mine, so far it looks great! Doing a fashion shoot on Thursday, looking forward to try out my new camera.

Just FYI as of April 24. I ordered a D800E from Amazon on Feb 7th and the order status just says: We'll notify you via e-mail when we have an estimated delivery date for this item.
Thanks Tom. Same here on the D800E ordered on Feb. 6th from Amazon.
They're a private company and have the right to consign shipments to whomever they please. Whether it's worth the loss of non-preferred buyers' goodwill is another matter.
The rumors of a soon to be released FF D600 makes one one wonder whether its appearance will be hastened in order to take off the pressure from all those unfulfilled D800 orders.
Or, whether Nikon might delay the putative D600 for a while in order to sell as many $3000 cameras as possible before introducing a less-expensive sibling that would inevitably cannibalize some of those D800 sales.

I just got my D800e from Ace camera in Ashton Va.
I'm so exited!!
I order mine on the 9th.
Did they make you pay up front for it? I knew better but I did call the only independent dealer in Richmond and as been the case in the past they make you pay up front and then place an order with Nikon. When the Canon 5D Mark II was announced they took money on preorders and didn't deliver for six months or more.
I placed my pre-order with Adorama on 2/7/2011 and the receipt email was timed at 11:59am. I think it is Adorama's time, EST.
I spoke with a customer rep there and he told me that they had received a few D800s as their first batch and still waiting for the next shipment. He believes that I have a good chance of getting one from their next shipment. Nikon has kept them in the dark and they don't know how many or when they are getting on their next batch. However, Adorama will not disclose where my position is in the que or how many preorders they received.

Wow, I would have thought Adorama would have taken care of the early orders by now. Nikon made a lot of deliveries this week but it may be a day or two more for the shipments to make it to New York since they come in through the port of Los Angeles.
At this point I'm glad I also place orders with smaller retailers. Chances are I'll get one of those before the one I placed with Adorama.
Also it is going to be interesting to see how the new 28/1.8 plays out. I put in an order for that within minutes of it showing up on their site.
I waited anxiously for a new Nikon Camera, chose the D800E, placed a pre-order 2/7 with the most reputable dealer I thought I knew, B&H, and only one order. Now in June I understand trusting B&H was a big mistake. They have provided no customer service of any value, just prettily worded e-mails, and continue to take orders in June when not even the 2/7 orders are delivered. This all smells to pure greed, I have learned my lesson and will never come back to this photo store. Nikon also seems to be delivering randomly to all dealers regardless of how many orders they have. Let this be my formal complaint.
