It immediately showed up in my visa statement. Asked why? :D
According to what I see in the transaction history a lien (pre-authorization) was placed and that may be what showed up in your Visa statement, but I see no indication any money moved from your account to ours.
henry do you have any indication of the numbers of units you will get vs your numbers of pre-orders as in do you expect long waits for those who didnt pre-order immediately?

I am sorry but I am not privy to much of this info and some if it is confidential.
Looks like a sweet camera at a sweet price. Have we seen any full res high iso samples yet? If this cam was maybe 18-20MP with similar noise profile to the D3s, at this price point, I would be all over it.
The noise profile should somewhere between the D3/D700 and D3s once you downrez to 12MP. Or even 18-20MP. I believe there are high ISO samples floating about. Why yes, a quick google shows this link.
I just placed a preorder for one this morning. I'm a glutton for punishment, not only for probably being at the end of the line for the D800 but the monumental pain it's going to be to switch back to Nikon after four years.
I had a retailer call me and suggest switching my order from the E to the D800. They said Nikon was worried about anyone using the E outside of the studio and that moire would be an issue.
Henry you're probably right. I only saw that in my statement there was a purchase or pre-authorization from B&H. Nothing against B&H, I still love to buy from them

That's what I've been hearing in a thread on another forum. As far as I know Nikon has never had a problem with their AA filters so I went with the D800. I also heard that Nikon is including NX capture to help deal with Moire so that could account for some of the extra cost. IMO I would only get the E if I had a specific reason for it and I don't.
Nikon got their plant in Japan remodeled and up to full production shortly after the quake.
They are producing 5,000 D4 and 30,000 D800 bodies per month.
Who knows when they switched production to the new cameras?
I expect a flood of them on March 20-22nd.

Was this a news story or something posted on a rumors site?
5,000 and 30,000 were quoted as production targets.
Who knows how long the new D4 and D800 cameras have been in production?
Also is full capacity one 8 hour shift of three?

Good questions....when it comes to manufacturing there are so many different variable that can impact the amount of finished goods produced. Every good manufacturer sets production targets, and then tries their best to exceed those targets.
Had a quick chat with a Nikon rep today at my local store and he told me I could expect to receive my D800 on the 22nd of March. While at the store I pre-ordered a D800E too, that one I'll have to wait a bit longer for. The first batch of E's are expected to come in April 14th, but since I pre-ordered today mine will arrive much later.. But I think I'll manage with my D800 and D3X till then
