Glad to purchase the D800E through Fred's link. It will be interesting to see how the camera handles not having an AA filter and the impact of these files sizes on my PP.

Just got this a few hours ago: I preordered within minutes of it going up on Amazon
"Nikon D800E 36.3 MP CMOS FX-Format Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)"
Previous estimated arrival date: January 02, 2013
New estimated arrival date: March 16, 2012"
I got one of these dates last week and now I am back in limbo with no expected ship date.
TSY87, Thanks for the sentiment. I had the same thing happen as you, two different dates, and now nada. Oh well, it gets here when it gets here but I'm not going on any photo trips until it does!
Just reminder, B&H will charge your credit card or PayPal account within a day of placing your order. In the past, some FM'er were off put by this policy. So, be aware.

B&H hasn't charged my credit card. I pre-ordered on 2/10.

The do NOT charge your CC upfront anymore. If you use PayPal however, your card stored in paypal or checking account will be charged the full amount.

For US customers paying with a credit card, we charge when the order ships. The only exception is drop-ship products and for those your order will be charged at the time we place the order with the vendor.
For US customers using any other payment method, including PayPal, and for all non-US customers, we charge when the order is submitted to us.
So will this allow a lower resolution Raw file, sort of like the sRaw's that Canon has? Or are these going to be a cropped mode only? Would love the ability to have say a 1/2 resolution Raw.
Got this today - I preordered mine within an hour of it being available on Amazon -
Hello,
We're contacting you again about your purchase of "Nikon D800E 36.3 MP CMOS FX-Format Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)." Unfortunately, we recently learned that the release date for this item has been changed again.
The manufacturer has changed the release date to an unknown date in the future, and we can't provide an updated delivery date. You're welcome to leave your order open, and we'll ship it as soon as we receive new information from the manufacturer.
We're sorry for any inconvenience caused by this delay.
^^^ Received the same email from Amazon. I preordered both the 800 & 800E from them minutes after they were available. I did this until I made up my mind on which one I wanted. I canceled my 800E order about a week ago but still got this email today. I don't think this is an official delay from Nikon. If you remember, previously Amazon was listing the same March 20th release date for the 800E. I think they realize this will not be available on March 20th. I'm sure the original release for April will take place.
I keep hearing this and I have yet to read this, but the d3x is/was 10% of the sales of the d3 series, the d800E will only be 1% of the sales for the D800, so the number of bodies produced will be significantly lower I would assume, which is why you're receiving these emails. Have y'all heard the same?

Henry, that is not true. I pre-ordered my D800 from B&H using CC and it was immediately charged. I cancelled my pre-order.
I pre-ordered from B&H right when they opend the process up and my card has not been charged. When I log into my account at B&H it shows it back ordered so I know it's in the system.
