Let the wild speculation begin.

3Dx (because the 1Dx is a combo of he 1D& 1Ds, I don't think a 5D + 7D = 5Dx)
Maybe a 5D3, but probably save that for a high MP model
Same 18 mp sensor as 1Dx
Single Digic5 for 6 fps
Similar AF to 7D
Some 1Dx video features ("rate" button the same)

digic5 x 2
same A/F as 7D,transmissive display
1400k OLED display
HDMI/ethernet port like 1D-X(video files)
3299.00

That would be sweet.
I guess it tops out at 6.3fps and 18MP but has better than 7D AF.
(Not that I have anything again 6fps FF and 8fps APS-C and 24-36MP )

(And that the rate button lets you rate how effective you thought the Direct Print button was for each shoot. )

hmm I may be correct, at least about the AF:
CR has an update:
"....as well as a “pro level” autofocus system. That bit of info comes from a known source.,"

(but then again they considered 5Dc to be pro level? )

Anyway I go noticeably better than 7D AF, 6.3fps, 18MP (I'd sort of thing at least 21MP but why in the world would the 1DX not have 21-24,28MP then? maybe because PJs hate giant files and 18MP was the absolutely most they could force them to accept?? will they retool a new sensor for the 5D alone though?? so I feel like it would be a least a bit more than 18MP and yet....).

CR now says NDA ends on Feb 7. So that would mean the quality leaks (the photos) began a week earlier than last time. They don't give it a high CR though.

21 to 24mp wouldn't make considerable difference in resolution. I'm hoping for 36MP.

Speculations apart, I found it entertaining how we were introduced to the new Canon body.
I hope the Canon employee does not get in trouble...

You better hope it is not 6+ fps, pro 1 series AF and 36MP otherwise, with zero left to complain about, your site will quickly go to zero traffic and die.

(well maybe some of the non out and out sports pros who pre-ordered the 1DX would keep it alive )

You are right they are 2 different cameras. #3 does not have a vertical grip and it does not have a mode dial on top of the camera.

No, the site traffic would be the same, but maybe people would be posting pictures instead of gear comments.

Yup, G1-X2 and 1D-X2 totally rolls of the tongue.

As do I, but unfortunately I don't think that's in the cards:

1DX = 18MP * 14fps = 252 MP/s. That's with two Digic5. Assuming the 5D3 or whatever it is has one of them, at 36MP that would come down to 3.5fps, which is not something to write home about.

If the 5D3 is indeed 24mp or thereabouts, for some of my jobs I would seriously have to cheat on Canon and rent the D800 with a 14-24 or there like...

As mentioned above, the "Rate" button is labelled in blue so it's for playback mode. That rules out any kind of fps function (still or video). Best guess is it adds a star rating to each image - although I can't imagine trying (or wanting) to rate an image before pp.

I wasn't really referring to that rate button. The 7D has variable speed and gets it done without that button. Heck on all cameras the speed is on the same button or combination as self timer etc., so it would be a whole new thing to get a frame rate button. Just saying that I find it doubtful that they'd go into battle with 3.5fps if today you can get 4fps. At that same 4fps frame rate you get down to the much less impressive 31MP. At 24MP you get 5fps.

stanj,

I was responding to Jim Victory who said,

"I'm guessing the Rate button is associated with the movie mode. 24fps, 60fps, etc."

I forgot to include the quote in my post.

The joystick on vertical grip attachment is very interesting! It really wouldn't have much purpose if Canon was to launch the camera with the same few and hopelessly placed AF-points as the 5D, would it?

Think about it for a second: That joystick would only be there, if one would actually have the need for it, if you know what I'm implying!

Yeah, the 5D III is getting the 1D IV AF! It won't get the 1D X system, but who cares; any 1 series AF is a quantum leap over what has been used in the past.

Yeah, the 5D III is getting the 1D IV AF! I would not be too sure about that Whayne. Think about the spread Canon needs in it's portfolio. A 5Dx should be further away from the 1Dx to justify the difference in cost and performance. I bet it will have a 7d like AF system, which is better than the current 5DmkII AF, but worse (and more cost effective!) than that of the 1D serie models.
