Rumors has the Canon 200-400mm f4 launching at $11,000 USD$.
Just $5,000 more than Nikon's 200-400mm f4 though the Nikon comes with no built in 1.4x.
Yes, plans changed for me too. I go back and forth, go all Canon, or all Nikon and cash out of one to fund the other.
Right now the current VR II 200-400 Nikon seems to be todays bargain at $6,999 plus $500 for their 1.4c TC. The zoom has gone up just $200 at B&H in last year while I watch and wonder and continue wait for Canon's official msrp.
I missed out when prior version 200-400 VR I Nikon routinely sold new for under $4,000 in January 2009, way back when I bought my 1st Nikon camera, D700 & 14-24mm 2.8.
Seemed at lot to pay for a 200-400mm f4 VR I three years ago, now not so much. A true bargain, which would still have two years left of Nikon USA warranty too.
Welcome to Canon's brave new world of photography, where once again only the extremely well healed will enjoy the experience.
1DX $7K
800L $14K
600L II $13.5K
400L II $11.5K
200-400L $11K
500L II $10.5K
300L II $7.3K
200 f/2 $5.3K (bargain)
So the cheapest of these lenses cost more than I paid for my new 500 f/4L and as we've seen with the 800L don't get your hopes up about price drops with time.

hah it is funny that the 200 f/2, which had been considered truly frightening in price, is now the bargain hah

From what I understand the 200-400/4 1.4x will weigh a tad more than 3.1kg and sell for more than $10.5k. These exceed my previous maximum estimates.
I think the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 + 1.4x TC for around $3500 is looking infinitely better value now and you get a bigger zoom range. Sure IQ won't be as good, but I'll bet it's not $7K worse.

There's the whole AF factor as well...still, might not be worth the 7K difference for many.

Still hard to get my mind around the new prices. Regrettably far out of my range.

Good thing I was never interested with the 200-400
Good thing indeed, Gwapito.
However, I think you are interested in 500/600 IIs.
I you get 500II (or 600II) before me, I'll give ya $10.
If I am the first one to get either lens, you will give me $10 (per lens.).
Have we got a deal ?

Peter not a fair deal for him we all know you are a secret tester and you already have one of each.

Robert, I wish.
However, I've been doing my best trying to explain to Canon Canada why is that I should be the first recepient of either lens in Canada.
