There is another image posted on CR, not posted before or on the source site, that shows a more square on view of the back of the camera--it does, indeed, appear to be a 16:9 LCD or at least a similar format.

EDIT: Noticed it's a cropped and rotated version of one of the others...still, the LCD does appear wider.

I am leaning more towards it being a 5D2 replacement as the camera it is replacing is 12 months older than the 7D.

There is no Nikon reason to update the 7D.

A wider 720p LCD would be great. It would be capable of displaying 1MP images at any time. I hope Canon uses the extra space 16:9 ratio allows rather than it just being blank black bars.

Maybe a well defined edge for the histogram so you can see clearly if there is much at the clipped end?

Here's a grab of that photo of the mystery camera that I've cropped, rotated, and upsized and highlighted a few things.

http://i838.photobucket.com/albums/zz305/daPriceIs/Random/Forum%20Posts/FM/MysteryCamera.jpg

1. Locking mode dial like 60D and the 7D mod. Full auto "green box" but the "Creative Auto" mode has disappeared. Also no pop-up flash but a large pentaprism bulge so FF

2. Direct Print just won't die! But what is the main function of this button? Has the picture styles button disappeared? (Not that I ever used it.)

3. "Rate" Since it's a "blue" button it relates somehow to images (or movies) already recorded to the card. Surely it's not intended to allow you to rate your images as you view them on the LCD? If so, it's another wasted button (like direct print).

4. Canon's version of "stealth" mode: put tape over the logo!

5. Excellent ergonomic improvement. Makes portrait shooting with the grip a lot easier.

6. More goodness. 7D-style Live View/Movie button and multifunction button. The M.Fn button suggests that the camera has 7D/1DX-style AF modes. It can't be seen in this photo but I'm willing to bet that it also has an additional M.Fn button paired with a relocated DOF preview button on the right front of the body like the 1DX (and also on the grip).

What do you think, why there is no new EFS lens done? Because that market is dead for Canon after they created FF a standard. The future is croping by the photographer not by technical restriction. There is no any longer. 1.3 in "pro" died because there

Crop market is dead

You are way off base with that idea Ralph.

The rate button is interesting as that usually means 6+ fps tops. I cant see canon offering 30+mp and 6+fps.

1Ds3: 5fps, High/Low switch.

well its safe to assume this is a new body...and will go out on a limb and say in fact this is a FF 5D mk3 or 5D-X (more likely) refer to 1D-x and G1-X...in new numbering scheme.

"numbering" - what comes afterwards? G1-XI? G1-Y?

I'm guessing the Rate button is associiated with the movie mode. 24fps, 60fps, etc.

I'm sure it is a 5D III or X because I just bought the II version.

By the time it is available and the entering price has dropped it may make my II a backup. We still don't know what is under the hood.

Yeah, well, at least I FLEW out to Tanzania, snapped a shot, flew home, processed AND posted a PHOTO of one. SORRY if that made me an hour slow!!

And if a picture is worth 1000 words and all you posted was "helmeted guinea fowl" (turning 2 words into 3 tsk tsk) then was not my posting 997 words more valuable?

(and, for the record, on another forum, I mentioned it before 6:30PM )

Anyway, I'm glad that we both agree it's clearly a photo of a Lesser Prairie Chicken that he captured with his new micro-4/3s 70D.

Oh and thanks.

EDIT: oops I see you actually linked to a photo too, but umm, errr, nevertheless I fully stand 100% behind all of my comments! (except for the thanks, that, and that alone, I retract )
