Ha ha... That's a Leica. X - Pro-1 or XP1. X1 does sound so much better though.

I think there should be some sort of law somewhere that the only organization that can label things X-something should be NASA.

Yes, how do you label your eX?

Snopchenko; nice one.

Ahhh.... these 'nearly there' cameras are beginning to tease!

The X Pro looks the part, appears to have a few very good lenses at launch and an excellent sensor, but I think the Hybrid VF is adding a lot of the size and cost here.

A smaller, cheaper EVF only version, perhaps once firmware is refined to include manual focus assist would be amazing.

Then again, so would a Ricoh GXR-2 with newer EVF and A16 module.

Fortunately the 5N still does a very good job while I bide my time and save my pennies.

Hopefully the 'alternative panacea' drops in the next 6 months for my next trip!

The size looks just right for me. I'm OK with the cost.

Thanks Douglas. Those are interesting points. I will have to try focus peaking to see how much I like it. For most of my shooting I care a lot more about precision than speed of focussing and magnification seems better for precision than peeking, but maybe I am missing something. Do you find peeking allows you more precision than magnification? I think having to switch the physical location I am looking through would ruin the use of an OVF for me, but I suspect you could guess that wouldn't be the best solution. I do appreciate the suggestion, however.

Hi, Steve. Peaking is for speed, magnification is for accuracy, and peaking+magnification equals the most accurate, IMO.

To be honest, I don't think you'll miss an OVF as much as you think you might, once you check out the Sony EVF, since you're manual focusing. I used my friend's GH2 a few weeks ago, and I thought the EVF was pretty awful, but I'm very content with the Sony. When you do try one out, make sure to set jpeg settings to -3 contrast, so that it opens up shadows on the EVF.

Some pre-production noise samples have been posted. They look decent:

Ok I know I'm not the best at chimping, but comparing 200 and 1600 side by side I can't even tell which is which
I'd gladly print colour up to 6400 I think.

Yeah, those ISO examples sort of look impressive with regard to low noise.

Yes. It really looks pretty good up to 3200 and really doesn't start to noticeably break down until 6400. It is pretty impressive, especially for an APS-c sensor.

On a side note, I was looking at NEX-7 reviews posted to B&H today. There are not many but at least one mentioned selling the camera due to poor AF (capturing kids in action). All of these compact cameras that use contrast AF are cool but none are currently able to deal with this sort of situation. Honestly, MF+skill is the only solution for action.

I never managed to be good at MF at moving subjects. That's why I still own a DSLR, for its superior AF. That said, I recently played with GX1 and GH2 and was found them to track rather good. Light levels were good though. With the good reports WRT AF of the E-P3 I think I'll give the upcoming OM-D a try.

I must confess that these AF issues of the XP1 saddens me. I recently played with the X100 and really liked its form factor. With great AF (a-la GH2 or E-P3) I'd surely buy the XP1. The pictures look really good.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Looks like Samsung may be joining Fuji in the RF look with their NX20.

One of our sources told us that it has a retro Konica IIIa (here on eBay) design with 1.8M EVF

The viewfinder is huge, the Konica IIIa (and IIIm and there's another, I think) had 1:1 RF/VFs.
