I'm ordering tonight (delivery end of Feb) but cant made up my mind which lens to get, the 28 or the 50. Either of them will be useful but there's also the possibility that I might end up covering the other end with an M when Fuji sorts out their adapter, so for now I'd just like to get the better lens for the camera if that makes sense?
The 28 seems a bit of an underperformer with harsh rendering but I like the size and I'm thinking that the sensor is probably not tuned for M lenses especially wides, so maybe it's probably best to cover the wide end with a proprietary lens which is designed for this sensor. On the other hand fuji's 50 looks bulky but a better performer over all. Photos here http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/x/fujifilm_x_pro1/sample_images/
I ordered an X-Pro 1 with XF 35/1.4 R and XF 60/2.4 R Macro lenses. I alreday have a X100 with 23/2 lens. If I like the X-Pro 1, I'll probably get a second body with the XF 18/2.8, and later (when it's available) the XF 14/2.8 R. I won't bother trying wide LTM/LM lenses, but I will (hopefully) use my CY Planar 85/1.4.

Your thoughts?
My thought is that you should call them what they are: 18mm and 35mm. Helps to reduce confusion. YMMV.

If it were me, I would initially go for the normal equivalent 35 1.4. It looks like a great performing lens on it's own (so I think you would get a very good idea of the X Pro 1's full capability), is fast and would be a versatile first lens. The wider lens may be an underperformer as you say. I would want to see more from it before buying it.

- I agree, the rangerfinder wides are probably not that good on the Fuji, so might as well buy one that is made for the sensor, i.e. the Fuji. And the Fuji 18mm is @ f2, whereas the ZM 18 is @ f4 etc, so even if one has to close the Fuji down a step or two for sharpness, it makes sense. And it got AF @ f2 for people shots... But maybe wiser to wait for the reviews rather than pre-order?

I'll let you know what I think as soon as I get one. My shop's current estimate is late Feb/early March. I'll be very pleased if I see it before the end of March.

Jim - if you don't mind me asking, who did you place your order with?

Atlantic Photo Supply, in Halifax. They're waiting for official confirmation of delivery date and price. So far, the "best guess" delivery date is about 45 days from 11 January. The "expected retail" prices are: X-Pro1 $1700, XF 35/1.4 $600, and XF 60/2.4 R Macro $650. As usual, the expected prices have a lot of 9's in them; I simply rounded up 1 cent.
Just wondering if anybody else is a bit disappointed about the magnification and/or aperture of the 60/2.4. As it is only has 1:2 magnification and covers only APS-C sensor I'd expect a 2.0 aperture. Tamron's 60/2 has 1:1 magnification and f/2.0 and is only 170g heavier (length and diameter are not that different). As the XP1 is far from being the lightest or smallest MILC in the world, I think that the added weight would pose no problems.
Ok I'll play guinea pig and let you know how I went :P
I have no doubt in my mind the camera has the basic specs I need, only thing that makes me a bit nervous is teething problems with the first batch (my early x100 went back to Fuji twice in 10 months), but the shop I order from and Fuji Australia have been quite good, so I think I'll take a punt. Going with the 18 for now mostly because I know I'll use the focal length more often, although I agree with Tariq: the 35 or better yet the 60 would probably be better suited to test what the sensor can do. But I'm sure we'll find countless reports on the internet soon.
"It (Fuji) says the 60mm and 35mm lenses require 'almost no correction,' while distortion from the 18mm lens is corrected automatically (we'll look at this more closely when reviewable cameras become available)".
I wonder if that means that the 18mm correction will be nullified by using RAW converter other than Fuji's ghastly one?
Where have you managed to pre-order this camera? I'll be in NY in May and would like to buy one with the three kit lenses. The best I could do was to get on the B&H and Amazon notification lists.
I got the first X100 in germany. I love and hate it. It is still going strong and will never leave me.
I will get one of the first X1pro with 35/1,4. I would have bought it if it was fixedlens. But like this

PS
Thanks for taking the plunge Spyro.
Doesn't e.g. Lightroom automatically correct certain lenses? I seem to recall reading the m4/3 stuff (which often requires significant correction) is automagically handled in Lightroom during raw conversion.
