Negatory!

The electronic aperture ring is a user interface input device. IMO, the more alternative ways that are available to run a camera, the better. Whether it connects to a lever or to a data bus doesn't matter to me. As long as it does what I want, when I want, then I'm OK with it.

So does any one no for sure yet if other lenses with the appropriate adapter will be possible to use on this camera?

Yep, in the youtube video(s) posted earlier the "Fuji Guys" does go over that briefly. You have various focal lengths plus two custom options where you can set the focal length to whatever you'd like, he specifically mentioned "for those interested in using M-mount lenses" (or something to that effect). So certainly seems good to go with the appropriate adapter, but I'm not sure how it'll handle with the OVF with adapted lenses...

I think it could be this one, but apologies not sure where in the video:

I agree with this. Without the ring it would mean another dial would need to be take aperture control of more menu diving. Sony NEX users should know this well

That doesn't mean anything to me. I want to hear it from Fuji themselves.

There's something to the tonality in shot shot. Extremely pleasing.

I'm not at all surprised. After all, it's a camera store in Canada.

Agh, I'm confused, so is that Canadian dollars or USD? Reports that a UK Fuji rep said prices will be around £1000 body only and around £500 for the lenses. So £1500 for the kit, perhaps... not too bad...

Since the Fuji lenses sit even closer to the sensor than NEX native lenses, looks like they will not be able to be used on anything else but the X-Pro1.

definitely since they're focus by wire.

Tariq Gibran wrote:
I think if you look at the total package size with native lenses (and compact, wide rangefinder lenses are pretty much out for the NEX-7 unfortunately), things pretty much equal out with the NEX. I agree though, both with native lenses pretty much must be treated as DSLR with regard to compactness.

only if i intend to use native lenses, which i don't. keeping things small and alt is easy on the NEX for me since i don't care about ultrawides. the extra height of the fuji i find particularly annoying for jacket pockets (i've experimented with various sized blocks plus lenses in the past)

Tariq Gibran wrote:
I don't know if Sony will be able to match Fuji's optical abilities, particularly if you look at the design innovation of the Fuji X lenses. They have large rear elements and tiny waist lines, almost like symmetrical LF wide angle lenses, but much more complex. This design plus having the lenses sit so close to the sensor was pretty genius. Real optical innovation!

agreed, i haven't looked at the designs, but i wonder of those rear elements are basically field flatteners?

p.27 #10 · Fujifilm X-Pro1 interchangeable lens

Alt glass discussion starts around 8:40 in. First thoughts after watching the video:

- Camera looks a little big in the presenter's hands.
- only two customizable lens definition slots. I have five lenses. What do I do?
- I don't like the surface treatment. Between grip and enameled metal and the textured covering the three different surfaces make it look less than tidy.
- No built in diopter adjustment. Can I fling dung at the camera now?

Oddly this last observation is one that would bug me the most as it makes it a pain in the butt to share a camera... maybe that isn't the intended market but my wife has been known to pick up my cameras and use them from time to time, even the all manual focus units. The only camera she never touched was my 6x6 Rollei.

With the X Pro 1 it is too bad she can't use the finder without unscrewing a ring, popping my lens supplied by some third party, hers in, screw ring back, focus, compose, shoot. Wait... where'd the kids go?

That's CAD, which lately isn't far off USD.

If the past is any indication, X Pro 1's will be cheaper in North America than in the UK.

The thing is straight conversions like that are never how it actually works out, so I wonder if that's how the Fuji reps simply did it also... :/

I'm less interested given the write speed on raws, kinda suggests speed wasn't an aim with this thing, so perhaps af isn't up there yet. I would have to get a hands on test later in the year, but will have to say goodbye to it for a while now I think.

Where is the 35 mm equivelant lens? (on the X100 I guess), or maybe it's coming later.

Sorry to come across as negative here... but really... $1700.. add a couple of lenses and this will come close to what I am guessing a 5D3 will come in at.. (okay maybe $500 splitting the two scenarios). I know these are two totally different things but I was toying with the idea of adding something like this to my kit.

I actually like some of the samples but too early to say. Who knows... but I predict that I won't jump on this even thought I really dig the look of the camera and the concept. It seems there is also just that one little thing missing in these types of releases... for instance had this been FF and the lenses 21mm, 35mm, and 90 mm... ooohhh... I guess that was four things...

Not only that image also the other ones on http://fujifilm-x.com/x-pro1/en/ under 35mm - very relaxed, "undigital" rendering and beautiful colours. After all, this is more important to me than size, weight, Megapixels and high ISO noise. Film like look, just without film.

Size??

Man? The X-Pro 1 is a shirt pocket camera in comparison with the best film cameras that I've ever used - those would be the Fujifilm GW670II and GSW690II.

You bet, but I do think this new camera is on the big side, considering its sensor size.

Overall, this new Fuji is very cool, but it may be a not-quite-there camera, to me. Like the M9, it's nearing small DSLR size, but the size of the M9 seems more acceptable, since it has a 135 sensor. The new Fuji seems downright bulky for an aps-c mirrorless. I was interested in the rumored PDAF system, but it looks like we're still dealing with CDAF, so I'd probably rather just manual focus, anyways, and the EVF specs are a bit of a let down.

Cost-wise, it isn't bad, considering I spent about the same for my 5N+EVF and CV 15/4.5, ZM 35/2 and ZM 50/1.5. I'm really trying hard to like this new Fuji...

Wow that thing is big. With disappointing specs.

So that is $1700 with no lens... Hmmm I think I'll stick with Nex for now but really a lot of that is because I'm invested in Alpha lenses.

I agree about the colors and tonality in the sample photos. Very very pleasing. Not surprising though knowing Fuji's history.

I agree. If IQ is superb with amzing detail thanks to no AA filter and if AF is a massive step up over X100 and there are no major issues like with X100 it may be reasonable value. Otherwise I'll keep looking. Maybe Sony can release some good lenses for the NEX-7.

If Sony managed to make just one compact NEX standard-ish lens, like the Samsung NX 30/2, it would probably be enough to open the flood gates.
