p.28 #1 · Fujifilm X-Pro1 interchangeable lens

Do you think these samples have sharpening applied or not? The tonality is nice, but from the description by Fuji on using the electronic viewfinder I'm a little hesitant about the speed of the focusing and viewing with this camera. I haven't used the Sony yet so I'm not familiar with the manual focusing abilities. The whole process of switching back and forth with the viewfinder and the EVF seems tedious to me. Has anyone had experience with this type of system with Fuji?

So if I'm reading this properly, you can use M-mount lenses on this camera but then your only hope of focusing is through the EVF?

Better be a bloody good EVF then because the x100 EVF is certainly not detailed enough for MF, not to mention laggy and couldn't handle high contrast.

I wouldnt mind using a nice wide/superwide CV pancake on this camera for landscape/street work, and focus approximately by feel using the focusing tab and the large dof of the lens. But I would still need a good OVF coupling to at least enjoy the OVF and not have to squint at bad quality pixels from point blank.

So the question is, what framelines will this thing have? And will it know how wide is the lens mounted, just from the adapter?

If Sony managed to make just one compact NEX standard-ish lens, like the Samsung NX 30/2, it would probably be enough to open the flood gates.

I'd like a 35 f/1.4 (but and f/2 version in pancake would be ok), a 60 f/2 macro, and a 16-35 f/2.8.

I love how small the Fuji 35 f/1.4 is for such a fast non pancake lens.

Im just trying to find out about the focus as well. That's sort of a deal breaker for me if it doesn't handle well in low light.

Right now I am considering giving up my Back-up 7D body for this and two of the Fuji Lenses(I know I will need another $1700 or so).... Keeping my 5DMKII as my main body, but Im a bit scared.... I lose the video and sports capabilities of the 7D. Maybe I should just keep the 7D and get the X100....

I tell you what, if I take the jump, this thing better match my 5DMKII in low light...

Now that I look at it more closely it reminds me more of the Konica RF than the Contax G2.

And I think the Konica was possibly the ugliest RF I've seen, but whatever...

The Fuji 35/1.4 isn't all THAT small. It is still quite a bit larger than something like the CV 35/1.4 with adapter, and even a bit longer than the ZM 35/2 with adapter, and the Fuji is quite a bit larger in diameter than both.

As big as people think the NEX lenses are, myself included, the overall depth of the NEX-7+24/1.8 isn't all that much longer than the Fuji and the 35/1.4. If Sony made one smaller, standard-ish lens, they'd be in good shape:

http://www.dpreview.com/previews/fujifilmxpro1/images/sbsnex7-001.jpg

p.s. just to be clear, I think both in this pic are larger than I'd prefer. I'd love a NEX-7 body with either a GXR or Fuji sensor.

You can enter the lens focal length in the menus. Here is a pic of the OVF:

The Fuji just seems much better balanced, and the sensor seems to be much less noisy. I am following diglloyd's rolling review of the Nex7 and it is all about noise, at all ISO settings, everywhere... Great colour, but noisy....

Not that I try to defend the Fuji, I have no idea yet wether I will buy into a new system, but the Sony seems just as flawed as a whole.

I was at their press conference. They didn't seem to have many answers. But did mention they are planning on 9more lenses. And it does have a focal plane shutter and their max xsync is at 1/125 compared to the x100s 1/1000

I have not tried it yet, but I would think the X100 can sync up to 1/4000 sec. at the F-stops supported at that speed.

It's nearly impossible to judge anything about the Fuji's IQ by looking at sample images on their website, and the underlying silicon is very likely a Sony 16mp sensor, anyways, If Loyd is complaining about noise with the NEX-7, it must be because he is either comparing it to 135 sensors, or he's not comparing it to other cameras at like output size.

I don't own the NEX-7, and I don't use NEX lenses, but I don't think we should get ahead of ourselves, here. I do think the Fuji is a sexy camera, but I'm most worried about the AF and size, personally.

Not only that image also the other ones on http://fujifilm-x.com/x-pro1/en/ under 35mm - very relaxed, "undigital" rendering and beautiful colours. After all, this is more important to me than size, weight, Megapixels and high ISO noise. Film like look, just without film.

I love the tonality in these shots! Having used Fuji film/chrome extensively, it has the film feel to the shots. I do really like the ergonomics of the size of the cam too. My comparison of course is the M9, almost the same size, and for street shots it is great IMO, but of course, there are many light weight and small options for lenses also.

If the X-Pro1 meets or exceeds all the hype, with great IQ, it will be great value for money!! The market will find its niche very quickly.

I'm a little surprised that some of you are able to gauge the tonality of this camera without the identical scene shot with other cameras for comparison (not to mention matters of processing.) I'm not saying the magic isn't there, but I think we're getting a little ahead of ourselves, no?

they're all pretty ugly, but then i say that about nearly all cameras. i do like that there are no silly product labels on the fron of the camera, that adds a little class.

I'm waiting to see reviewer photographs with alt glass. Hopefully Rock Huffwell is getting an advance look.

OK, so that's what we know regarding the use of alt lenses:
- LCD is a high rez one, but no tilt, no touch screen neither (so great for MF)
- No focus peaking of any kind.
- No sure about magnifying for MF
- two spots to program alt lenses. Still not sure how that works, I guess it's related to OVF (?)
- EVF is not as good as the new NEX - lower resolution.
- Native lenses are fully electronic although the "aperture ring" seems to be convenient.
- MF electronic, "by wire"
- RAW software will be hard to develop
- menu seems to be much improved
- 8 RAW file buffer, 5fps, but "fuji guys" repeated many times you must use the fastest SD cards,
which brings doubts about the speed of operation
I guess the IQ would have to be absolutely amazing to push me towards this camera.
With the convenience of NEX I simply can't imaging myself going back to this kind
of limitations, like no tilt LCD. You can tell it will take a year to get Adobe RAW support.
Not crazy about the size neither...

I'm waiting to see what I can do with it, with Fujinon lenses. Anything on top of that is gravy.

Mmmmm. Gravy.

Just to be clear the sensor is a Fuji designed and manufactured unit, most definitely not a Sony 16MP sensor.
