p.25 #1 · Fujifilm X-Pro1 interchangeable lens

I'm betting the high ISO quality is extremely good given the ISO range but the AF? That's a major question mark.

p.25 #2 · Fujifilm X-Pro1 interchangeable lens

From the dpreview preview:
"in terms of detail resolution the X-Pro 1 should punch above its weight based on pixel count alone - indeed Fujifilm is claiming it will out-resolve the full frame 21MP Canon EOS 5D Mark II."

Should this turn out to be true with the Fuji lenses, they will sell a ton just for that reason. I have a slightly doubt and would put that more like "close to the 5dII output (in print)" - but I am willing to get surprised positively.

Quite confident, those Fuji guys :-)

NEX 7 is sexy and small, no doubt about it...but what's that huge buzuka looking thing mounted to it!

That means it will fall short of beating the 24MP FF Sony A900/850 with good glass at base ISO.

Dpreview:

Each has a prominent manual focus ring and an aperture dial controllable in 1/3 stop increments (a welcome improvement over the X100), although neither control is mechanically coupled - both focus and aperture are electronically driven 'by wire'.

So the lens is fully electronic, the aperture ring is a gimmick.

So, Silky will just have some short moments :-)

Tank, "Damn, it's a very exciting time." The Matrix (c) 2000.

If it's quiet, it's mine.

P.S. It'll be interesting to see the image circle size on the new Fujinon lenses. The body has enough room for a FF sensor.

Let's hope so. Historically, that has not been the case with Fuji specialized sensors such as the SuperCCD in the S2 and third party raw support. It took quite a while for it to show up and then even longer for third party software to match the quality of Fuji's native raw converter.

Sure, but it would have been unrealistic to expect otherwise. 16 is not 24. But honestly, how often will you *need* (as opposed to want) 24MP? Files without AA filter - in my experience - also stay better "Intact" and lend themselves better to enlargements than files from cameras with AA. The resolution of the Kodak SLRn was only upped by the 21MP cameras, and it was only 13,5MP or so.

My main interest is however not Megapixels, but tonality, colour, DR (unfortunately they did not mention that at all) and the general rendition qualities - so I am waiting impatiently the first high class samples of this camera.

Cheers
Bernie

Waiting to handle it and see some real world samples, but this camera may start weening me off film. It's nice and big so I can handle it, and the price doesn't scare me off if the IQ and construction lives up to the hype. Bravo, Fuji!

So all we need now is an electronic adapter for the Fuji lenses to NEX and all will be good.I bet we see a price war on these cameras soon.

I am not too happy to see that Fuji has given up their clunky, but excellent (results!) own software, the slowish "Hyper utilities". I still use it with the files of my trusted S3 and S5pro. Great colour output, very pure!
RAWs of my x10 out of Silky are a joke in comparision.

+1

Except for the film part, whatever that is...

I do need it for many uses myself and with very good glass, I can easily go up to 30"x55" with the A900 and that's with a moderate wide angle and landscape. Studio stuff can go larger. As for expectations, Fuji set them with their marketing rhetoric.

Knowing Fuji - and having been a Fuji S2 owner - I do expect this Fuji XP1 to give wonderful overall IQ though.

Samples!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/x/fujifilm_x_pro1/sample_images/

Well - not that they look bad, but sharpness and rez seems quite ordinary.

This here (replace "dot" by a dot):
http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/x/fujifilm_x_pro1/sample_images/img/index/ff_x_pro1_009(dot)JPG

... is problematic: Hardly anything in focus.

Lets hope just first "standard crap samples".

Bernie

Yes, when I received my X100, I was expecting to see the old Fuji Software but alas it looks like they have abandoned it.

Darn, was all set to resist but then Fuji had to go and mention they have plans for 12 lens in the next 3 years, with a 14mm lens coming out sometime in later 2012, which would be a 21mm equiv (and a favorite focal length of mine) so now I may seriously have to look at buying one

I agree that the samples look ordinary. The Sony NEX samples I've seen from the 24,50 and 30 are just as good if not better. Like you said they could be just the crap first samples but my 5D Mark2 would blow these away. I hope they let a pro shoot this and do some comparisons.
