sure ... in the used market.

I can see the 1DIV living on with the 1.3 crop to help sport and wild life shooters.
but as somebody mentioned .... better to bring both lines together if you are Canon.

I can see the 7DII going to the 1.3 sensor size.

$6800? rediculous

In absolute terms yes, but relative to what's available from Canon, I disagree. In real world terms it's much cheaper than 1Ds III was 4 years ago and a much better camera most likely.

We'll see. It looks like the 1D X is targeted for the sports shooter and at that price point I think people will be just fine (if not happier) with an old 1DIII or 1DIV for much much less.

As for the 1DS market being targeted with this body I think they missed the mark.....I predict the D800 will be an eye opener for all those who think 1DS'ish specs should cost 7K+

Now, if the announcement had been a midsized 3D body with that same 18MP sensor, 8FPS, 1D'ish AF for 4K then I think they'd have a winner because
...Show more

personally yeah the 3D you mention above, or better even maybe a 6.3fps but 26MP one with 1D AF, small body, etc. for 4k would be something i might be able to go for (and not only that, actually prefer)

so i think they still have some huge gaps

if the D800 releases to rumor, man that has every spec i think i could want in a body (of course who knows how well it works), i do hate nikon UI and the lenses I am not as fond of either though

but if you don't mind a large body the 1D X certainly has the potential to perform radically well and if you can afford it and live with a bit less reach and such

Not that they would outwardly state they have another high end body up their sleeve still, but I find it very, very difficult to believe Canon will abandon the MP race or just leave it up to the 5-series...unless the 5-series get a big boost on other fronts that is.

An interesting quote form the Canon Australia site:

"Superseding the EOS-1D Mark IV and the EOS-1Ds Mark III, the EOS-1D X is the ultimate tool for all professionals offering both exceptional image quality and unparalleled speed in one camera."

I'm not making claims either way, just posting what Canon have published, but using the word superseding is certainly saying something for the moment. Of course, it doesn't preclude future flagship releases.

This makes me think the 5D series cameras are going to be the larger megapixel cameras than the 1 series. But then again...

Am I the only one that is happy that they finally put two thumb multi controller joysticks?

we will see but that sounds promising

Yes, but with the mediocre AF systems and inferior build I'm not sure there is a lot of value to those pixels unless the subjects are stationary or compose/refocus or manual focus is employed.

Nikon for landscape, Canon for action

Yeah, I'm sure 5D III will be much improved over 5D II.

"In fact, compared to the regular DIGIC 5 processor, the DIGIC 5+ offers three times faster performance when processing images."

so they are using a different digic than in the cheap P&S this go around, at least for the 1 series

No doubt--even the quote from Check Westfall makes it pretty apparent. That said, there is nothing saying the 1Ds won't be transformed into something else or flat out replaced with an even higher end model. The 1Ds line may be dead, but that doesn't mean there won't be a 1DXs, 1DR etc etc.--That was my point from the get go. There are plenty of photographers out there who will be left craving a very high res DSLR. 1Ds or not, I can't see Canon giving up in this respect.

still seems to use old A/D system in the general sense, hopefully the A/D won't kill their DR again and they can somehow get the Sony DR without the Sony column A/D system

Well they better do something with the 5DIII or release the 3D because if this ridiculously expensive 1D X is the only FF Canon offering with good AF and decent fps the D800 is going to smash them...

"The increased processing power, combined with the improvements in sensor design, has permitted an increase in high ISO performance with a gain of two stops over the EOS-1D Mark IV"

so at least some of the 2 stops better is just fake DNR processing, how much is real then? 1.5 stops? 1 stop? .5 stops?
