p.2 #1 · EOS 1D-X! March 2012!

My query is what is going to happen to the 1DS. I do need a high resolution body & regularly print large. CR guy, you seem to be in the loop at lot more than the rest of us. Is the 1Ds4 dead?

Did I calculate 10 stops of ISO correctly?

Interesting that the video features are not given too much column space. Interesting they reduced pixel count from the 1Ds3. Interesting the 1DX is super fast fps.

Which leads me to think the 5D line will be the high MP body with all the video focus, probably their November announcement.

It's clearly the photojournalist's camera in time for the Olympics. No mention of video. It's an upgrade of a 1D series camera, but full-frame.

My point estimate is $9500, my confidence interval is $8500 - $10000.

$5499 for this Camera.

$9499 for it's big brother.

$3499 for the 5D Mark III which I believe will use the same sensor.

There will always be a fast 1D and a big megapixel 1D. This is not the big megapixel 1D. Many people have been hearing info of a 48mb camera in the line.

1Ds4 must be next. I can't imagine this camera killing 1Ds line.

Featuring advanced video-capture capabilities, the Canon EOS-1D X’s upgraded imaging system and Dual DIGIC 5+ deliver greatly enhanced movie quality. In particular, the camera minimizes the occurrence of color artifacts and moiré, and enables the shooting of low-noise video even in dark conditions.

Kinda confused about it only having 5 f/2.8 x-type sensors out of 61 as well as what 'dual' means in that regard...

We'll see at midnight eastern time perhaps...

I interpreted this to mean that there are five pairs of cross-type sensors that are sensitive to f/2.8 in both the horizontal and vertical directions. Each pair consists of a closely-spaced double set of lines, for extra AF precision. Thus a single AF spot in the viewfinder of this type is actually two cross-type AF sensors, spaced so closely together they effectively behave as one.

Perfect, now just give me that sensor in the 5D3 with the new AF system....the quote below is the best thing I've seen from canon in years, perhaps they have turned a corner with the MP race and realized we want IQ not MP?

"The new Canon EOS-1D X incorporates a newly developed approximately 18.1-megapixel 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor which, in addition to achieving an optimal sensor size and pixel count balance, effectively makes use of Canon’s proprietary semiconductor technologies to ensure low-noise performance"

It looks as it might be a dream camera with all I wanted: image quality, good AF, fast frame rate and unbelievable ISO performance. Maybe I'm too excited

I agree, and it's great to finally see AF points that are x-type at f/5.6.

Hard to say on price, but cynically I'd say, $8K, but it would be a huge jump from 1D IV to this if so. Hopefully $6K max.

I still think this is it for the 1-series. The high megapixel camera will be the 5D Mark III.

Yeah, look at say 7D white paper for high precision AF points.
