I am not an Indian expert, but I can tell an old motorcycle from a new one, and a Harley from an Indian engine, most of the time. I do believe that it was a real, old Indian. Maybe it is still there? I saw it in the fall.

Yes, I think many hobbies are quite similar in this respect. Coffee, cars, motorcycles, photography. The latter is cheaper though All my photo equipment value added up gives a number which makes my girlfriend unhappy, but if I were to sell it all and buy a car, I would not get much more than a new mid-level Golf...
