p.1 #1 · How to mount "ring light" to a light stand?
So I just build myself a home made "ring light".
It is a 2 ft x 2 ft piece of plywood with a hole cut in the center. On the outside of the hole I have attached eight electrical boxes with light sockets on top of the electrical boxes.
So now I am trying to figure out a good way to mount this to a light stand. I'd probably want to put it on a strong light stand, so I'm thinking it would be connected to a 5/8" pin on my Avenger A420.
So does anyone know of something I could attach to the plywood that would give me a 5/8" female connector that I could then place onto my Avenger A420?

Well I decided to call the helpful folks at Matthews Studio Equipment ( http://www.msegrip.com/mse.php?show=catalog ) and they came up with the following, which I think will work.
RECEIVER MOUNTING PLATE
Often used as the foundation for a monitor platform, a speaker platform or for placing product on. The plate has a 5/8” receiver for placing directly onto a Baby Stand. The plate is provided with four screw holes.

Supposedly there is a locking pin, so that the pin won't allow the plywood to spin vertically. He recommended replacing the knob with a screw so that the two items are permanently attached together.
Unfortunately it is turning my relatively cheap ring light into a more expensive project, but I think it will be worth it.
I think attaching that to the top would work, but their solution is better.
I thought about that, but I guess I was worried about it being able to hold the plywood securely from the bottom. I'm worried about the plywood spinning vertically, when it is clamped from the bottom.
I guess a test could help figure that out And I do have a couple of them.

I meant to hold it from the top with the pole parallel to the plywood. I agree you could probably hold it from the bottom but it won't be very stable!
Double superclamps will allow you to secure it many ways. Most sturdy will be between two lightstands, you can also change the angle of your light.

The problem with holding it from the top is then the lightstand pole is probably going to be going right through the hole area, which won't look very good in the photos

Thanks. I'll think about that solution. Has some advantages, disadvantage I see will be using two lightstands, but that isn't a deal breaker. Other disadvantage is cost, but can use the superclamps for other things when not using the ring light.
