So now that we're mostly moved in to the new house, I tried out my new "studio" (really the spare bedroom) on some Lilies. Here are some of the results:
Hmm, the high contrast lighting is too alien-like for my taste. I like your compositions but the light just doesn't touch me like a naturally lighted flower does.
Thanks for all of the comments. I was definitely going for harsher lighting here. The pistol and stamen of the plant just looked so alien that I was trying to accentuate that. As for the black background, I can't claim any magic there. It's just a black t-shirt taped up behind the subject and some creative control of lighting and depth of field. Here's a shot of a previous setup to give you an idea:
