My next piece of Canon equipment to go- up for sale is my 400 f/2.8L IS.
Let's do $4899 shipped, net of fees for this.
I've just gotten myself a 200-400mm, and although not as sharp as this guy here, it's a fair compromise for the versatility.
This lens's date code is US, lens is in pretty good condition bar some paint loss on the hood and around where the hood attaches to the lens, and some small paint loss on the lens barrel itself. I've touched up some of it and it isn't a real issue. The identity plate has some wear.
Complete with Canon 400 Case, Strap, Hood, Front leather Cap, Canon rear cap, and case keys. The focusing ring is absolutely smooth, and the tripod ring bearings are very, very smooth as well.
Glass is perfectly clean except for two small scratches in the surface coating of the protective filter, and a tiny rub mark. I've tried my best to get it to show up accurately- I've circled in the pics where they occur.
Rear glass is pristine. The front glass is a protective filter and doesn't have any resolving purpose. I haven't seen any effect, and don't see how this could ever effect images at all, with this long a focal length pretty much anything on the front has little effect- the cost of a replacement filter would be $299 (quoted from Canon), and you would have a brand spanking new front filter- but there's no practical point in this- since there would be no potential gain other than resale value, and I personally would just take the discount through the attractive price I'm offering on the lens.

I see good condition 400 IS's go for $5800 or so, so I've discounted down $800 to account for the paint loss and small scratches. I'm open to offers as well.
