Glenn,
I'm just a lurker with a point and shoot. But in my opinion they're correct. Sweet series, you've arrived at the next level with a bang buddy. I was back a few pages saying to myself wow thats my fav, then I'd see another picture and say again, wow, thats my fav. I just have to say that that whole series was outstanding

Dang Rodolfo - I wish you wouldn't do that! It seems to happen a lot more than it should - particularly with the things I write. Maybe it has to do with a poor writing capability on my part - maybe its this ongoing underlying passive aggressive approach to me you've openly displayed since Osh 08. But I would like to formally ask for it to stop. Seems like Dazz may also be getting a taste of it as well. Maybe you don't even realize you're doing it - so for that possibility - I'll cut you some slack and let it go unless it continues.

Case in point so you know what I'm talking about, you said this: "Jon hated Moose's presentation. That's OK. (The frozen props bugged me too, but the guy's specialty is bears and wildlife, so I cut him some slack.) "

Where did I ever say I hated Moose's presentation? I didn't say it in person and I didn't say it online. I said I was bored to death and fell asleep. There is a big difference! Moose's presentation was soaked with an "I'm the greatest - learn from me" attitude. It reeked! I find that off-putting by anyone who brings it to the show. It didn't matter what kind of equipment he uses - he could have been using Canon and I would still have been put off.

Jerry Ward brought the same attitude - at least Moose has the chops when it comes to wildlife and scenery. It is off-putting to all - or should be - even to "noobs". (newbs)

If a "pro" got some inspiration or bit of knowledge from his presentation - I'd be mighty surprised.

Moose has a lot of accolades and covers under his belt, maybe as many as Paul Bowen ( i doubt it). But you won't find Paul standing in front of a crowd proclaiming he's the greatest. It is a stark contrast in the two personalities. I'd prefer more from the Paul Bowen camp if I'm going to sit in a dark warm room for three hours at a time.

Partly out of courtesy and partly out of boredom, I had planned to exit Moose's presentation as soon as it was over and go to my room before he started the Nikon portion.. As it turned out - my good friends allowed me to continue to sleep through the break, and took sport in taking a few less than complimentary photos of me once the light was turned on. I didn't wake up till well into Moose's presentation of Nikon software editing techniques and by then had a stiff sore neck and was embarrassed to know I couldn't exit when I had planned. I know I snore - I can't imagine how loud it could have gotten (or did). It might be funny to all who witnessed it - but its about as funny to me as drinking too much and making an ass out of myself. (Been there, done that and appreciate the few people who turned up to cover me)

So, thanks to all within 10 feet of me - i now know how far i can trust you to "cover my 6" - which isn't much. Sorry to have caused you all so much distress that one of the MA2A shirt wearers did such an unprofessional thing. I'm embarrassed by my actions - what are you going to do with yours?

So - i'm off track - the purpose of this response was to point out Rodolfo once again either jumped to a conclusion or just decided he had enough information to make a statement and see if it floats at my expense. In either case, I'm not happy about being characterized about what someone thinks i hate and what I say I'm bored with. There wasn't much in Moose's presentation (what I heard of it) to inspire anyone - pro or amateur. Particularly when it was drenched in so much ego. But that isn't the question - his content isn't what put me to sleep - it was his attitude. Most of the other presenters spoke with some similitude of humility - not Moose. If God were to go on vacation, I got the feeling Moose would want to step in and make sure everything got done.

--
I will agree with you on the Pocket Wizard guy. I had hoped to actually learn something from this presentation. When it was obvious it was an infomercial with all the ShamWOW - "wait there's more"... I was very disappointed. I didn't learn much at all that I didn't already know. I've used pocket wizards for a couple years. These two presentations were the bottom of the barrel in my opinion. Nothing at all like the Scott Kelby presentation from the previous ISAP.

Nice pics everyone.

JWilson I got the part where you were uploading pics while flying. Thats kinda cool.

JBear, all I can say is I wouldn't want to wake a sleeping bear. Take some comfort that any daggers thrown your way would only have come from jealousy.

You guys must be finding some keepers by now so keep em coming! Please.

Gerard-

I agree with Jo, that P-51 canopy is very nice!

I've been looking through my shots from the afternoon at the racetrack with the D300, and they seem to be a little less sharp than my shots with the D3 at Nellis. I'm wondering if it has to do with the lens/TC needing a focus adjustment, or just operator error...

Here are a few.

I kkind of like the mood of this KC-135. Sort of an "unsung hero" shot showing they will fly through unpleasant weather to get the gas to the heavy drinkers...

Hey! That's one of our F15s from Tyndall AFB! I wonder if the pilot is one of my neighbors - I have 2 who are instructor pilots in the F15 and one who is an F22 instructor pilot. I didn't notice any Tyndall F22s in any of the photos yet.

It's unfortunate that Tyndall is about to lose all of it's F15s as the big drawdown of those planes starts soon. We're going to be losing about 900 jobs locally. Most of us here are hoping that Tyndall will be in the running to get one of the F35 training base slots; we certainly have the ramp room and training airspace for it!

Keep those photos coming!

Here's a shot from an impromptu shoot yesterday. I thought the vignetting from the Mk.1 70-200VR might add something nice to the shot, but now I don't think I like it. Maybe the Polarizer contributed as well?

Shooting mid-day was a bummer, but when they say you have 90 minutes to get it done, then they are leaving, you do your best to make some lemonade (yes, taking lessons from those better than I).

I'm hoping for a do-over if they come back to town tonight. (dusk looks MUCH better!)

I certainly heard a lot of people commenting on our shirts and wondering (a) what they were all about and (b) where they could get one! I think we were noticed... hopefully that won't be a bad thing, I see ISAP and MA2A as entirely separate entities but ones that should benefit each other.

Anyway... I finally got a chance to get into my computer room (while the cats are sleeping) and look at some photos... here's a few tasters; as I type, I haven't seen many more of these than you guys, so I've no idea what else lurks within my Lightroom catalogue... time will tell.

Hey Jo, love this shot. I am a bit disappointed that you didn't get more prop blur though. Maybe slow your shutter down around 3 seconds or so. Just kidding. I really like all the elements going on in this photo.

Thanks Leo!

You know, I went down to around 1/40th to try and get some blur on those windmills and you _still_ can't see it! And the heat haze makes it hard to see what is going on.

Well, that's an easy one... I didn't. At least, I surely didn't intend to do it.

Thanks for pointing out a specific issue. I was just being "conversational" and referring to a previous comment in order to add a new one. So I used very loose phrasing, with "bored" and "disliked" and "disapproved of" being simplified to "hated" the presentation. I did not intend to distort your statement or change anything about it. Everyone read your comments, which were very clear. All I intended was to agree with you, then add the PW comment. If this had been a verbal conversation, I would have said "Yeah, I didn't like it that much either, but he's a wildlife guy so I'll cut him some slack. But you know what, the PW guy gets the infomercial prize, he was so much worse!" It's just a reference to a prior comment in order to segue into the next.

No offense intended, and I'm sorry if it sounded that way.

jbear2000 wrote:

No. Please do not extrapolate one thing to another, nor make the kind of assumptions you disapprove of others making. I made a very clear and direct comment about the B-1 night departures during our Thursday dinner, and Dazz objected to it. End of story.

Richard, if you can find out what tail numbers they fly, I'll check to see if any of my semi-decent shots are of their aircraft.
