On the politics front, I think Jim's last post on the matter and Bill noting that we're dealing with the effects of more than just the last two years now pretty much cover it for me. I don't have much confidence in anyone anymore, it's just a matter of who makes me wince the least.

Mark, many of the farmer's here in Central Texas planted wheat. My farmer planted about 100 acres on my place. His yield was about 50-60% of what he would get in a normal year. We had our drought make an appearance this year, it comes around about every 10 years. Anyway, my point is that wheat is in high demand and the yields are down. With supply short and demand high, wheat prices will probably be going up even more...enjoy your $10 bag of flour.

No buyer's remorse from me. Say what you want about him, when he was the President, the world was at peace (for the most part), gas was cheap, economy was booming, real income was up across the board, things were cheap, communist China was put on notice. But some of the stuff he said and did were crazy for sure. He had his days, time to move on. That's what some of us were saying here.

Generally the world is still at peace, except for Mr Putin's cruel war on Ukraine. Pretty well all the world's problems stem from that, all the expenses and shortages, that affect poor people the most.The rich are totally unaffected.
If I remember well, Mr Trump was very fond of Mr Putin and his 'Dictatorial' ways as he was with Mr Xi and the North Korean president. Mr Trump has not a ounce of 'Democracy' in him. He is a 'dishonest' person that became the US President, as well as has pretty well made the GOP almost unelectable. Even if the GOP and the MAGA people have not had enough of Mr Trump. the rest of the US has.
Mr Trump was not in power long enough to create the conditions that you say the US benefited from, during his tenure It could well be argued that those benefits accrued from the 8 years of the Obama administrations.
Also the present US malaise after 4 years of Mr Trump could actually be his legacy. He is a very rich man only
interested in the rich.
The US is not unique, the UK has the almost exactly the same problems

This is the last time I would say anything about him here. He did say some crazy things about Putin, so did the other side about "Russiagate", it was fabrication to attack him and delegitimize his presidency (talking about election denier). Remember he demanded Europe to increase defense spending and reduce their dependence on Russian energy? Did anybody there listen to him? The Germans were laughing at him when he said they relied on Russian energy too much. He was the first US president in decades who didn't start a war. He was also the first U.S. president that saw the threat of the rise of the Chinese communist dragon and did something about it. We can argue until the cows come home whether his economy was the result of Obama's legacy but the fact of the matter is it was very good during his presidency until the Xi virus hit. I agree, he is not a man of high morality, same deal goes to most politicians, they are all liars.
The problem is and will always be Jan 6th and election denial. Yes politicians lie but most do not insight insurrection. There was a time when the GOP would have been in total outrage over such things. And in my opinion they need to get back to what they once stood for. The german industrial and biz world in the 30s were in total support of Hitler because he had the German economy rock'n. That helped him solidify his power.
And we should be more alarmed at why we weren't better prepared for an epidemic. It could have been something far more deadly (this was bad enough). Movies from over 20 years ago predicted something like this. I doubt we are any better prepared now.
Until we get out of our team jersey and realize we are really all one team and really need each other for democracy to work, we will continue to be exploited by out enemies. Who knows Q could be some guy in Russia making all kinds of crazy $h!t up just to help keep us divided. When we are divided who wins. Not the right. Not the left. But Russia, China and Iran. We need to wake up before it's to late. I think these last 3 election cycles should be a real wake up call for some. But I doubt it.
I was off Trump the minute he attack John McCain and that gold star family. He was home here with bone spurs while McCain was being beat and abused in a prisoner of war camp. Being a veteran myself that is a line that shouldn't be crossed especially by someone that has only served himself.

Good Morning Bill,
That was the Skybolt that I built back in the 90's. My Mom was down for Thanksgiving and wanted to go for a ride. She was well into her 70's at the time and had never flown in anything up to that day. I had not flown the mandatory 25 hours of test flight off the Bipe so she couldn't actually go up in in it. Mom was extremely fearful, of just about everything in life, she'd talk a good game but when it came down to doing much of anything she beat a hasty retreat (something I have tried my best not to emulate in my life). She also wanted to "ride" in the Cessna Skyhawk XP so she could tell all her friends about the airplanes that she "flew" in over Thanksgiving. We taxied and I got her comfortable in it, then I distracted her, pulled up to the runway and began to talk her through what an actual flight would feel like as I advanced the throttle, at some point I looked at her and said, "and this is what it would feel like if we were actually flying............." She looked out the side window at the ground falling away, I wish I could have had a video camera pointed at her to capture her joy and amazement. Like many who suffer from anxiety, it's the anticipation that's torture, not the actual event so much, so I eliminated the first part. In her mind she conquered a life long fear and the story got bigger each of the zillion times it was told, it was definitely a highlight in her life and a treat for me.
