Dear Mark,
Thanks for having my back Buddy, it means a lot. I have long since suspended reality re: comments of any kind originating in California.......is that racist........or geographiphobic" or whatever they invent next?
Jim,
The name of the virus is SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2), which is admittedly a mouthful. Most folks call it COVID-19 or coronavirus, either of which is fine (although COVID-19 is one of many coronaviruses). Interestingly, the "19" in the name refers to the fact that the virus was identified in 2019 (yes, in China), I think on December 31st, the very last day of the year. For a virus that's vast impact upon civilization has been in 2020 (and will have been, when all is said and done), it's kind of a misleading name, to be sure.
There are many people that have written extensively on why calling the virus the "China virus" is xenophobic, hateful, and yes, racist. Here are a few articles written better than I could do:

From the middle of March 2020 to the middle of June 2020 (3 months), the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council received more than 1,800 reports of pandemic-fueled harassment or violence against Asian Americans in 45 states and Washington, D.C. I don't know if any of the commenters on this thread are Asian or have experienced this hate first hand, and if you are truly uninformed on this topic, that doesn't make you intentionally racist. I apologize if that was how my comment was taken. However, using terms like "China virus" (intentionally or not) causes racism.
I don't care how you vote or what media you consume. I don't care if you are caucasian, Asian, black, brown, or some other ethnicity. I don't care where you live, be in California, Texas, Ohio, or Florida.
But my wife is Asian. And my kids are half Asian. So, I do care if you call it the "Asian virus." Please, please, don't.
As for FM, I love this site. I've been a member for 7 years, so I guess I'm a newbie compared to some of you. I lurk and learn more than post, but it's been very informative. I have had multiple cameras, most recently and currently a Canon 5DIV, along with a brilliantly sharp 24-70 f2.8 II, a very nice 70-200 f2.8 II, the incredible 200 2.0 (which I don't have the talent to do justice), the 85 1.2 II, and a bunch of others. I prefer taking photos of people over other subjects, as I find the challenge of capturing non-static objects utterly compelling. I am good with composition, bad with lighting, and infinitely curious about maybe getting an R5. So... there, maybe we have something in common.
