For what its worth... here is the link to the Peruvian wedding last month. I finally got the approval to open up a public gallery. http://jonberryphoto.smugmug.com/gallery/8804067_jvSWv

I can say with complete certainty that the next wedding I shoot will be held on a Wednesday...

Less than ten minutes into the service, the power went out and all we had were candles for a while. It came back on - but nothing was quite the same after that. Even with lights, having enough to make depth of field a non issue was impossible. My ISO covered ground from 800 to 25,000. Not to mention I needed Rodolfo there for the whole service to translate what was happening - not only was it a Catholic wedding... it was all in Spanish! Growing up a Baptist and only having gone to one other Catholic wedding (done all in Latin) I was lost. Not a word was English.
I was completely confused when three of the songs sung during the service were "Hey Jude"... a song about shooting heroin... "Yesterday" a song about a broken heart over lost love... and "The Sounds of Silence" a song about man's lack of communication with his fellow man... go figure. (They say they changed the words - but i will never know!)

Thanks for the photo of the Catalina

You guys in the States probably havnt heard of the "Double Sunrise" flight operated by Qantas during WWII

Five Consolidated Catalina flying boats, ran a covert, long-distance service from Perth to Ceylon during the dark days of WW2 when Australia was virtually cut off from Europe by the Japanese blockade.

These aircraft ran VIP’s and important freight in radio silence over 3,513miles of Ocean without fail during1943-45 to forge a vital link between Australia and Europe.

They would leave Perth In Western Australia and 27 / 28 hours later would arrive in Sri Lanka having experienced two sunrises

Cool story Tim, thanks for sharing it. I like #6, 10 & 11 best from JamesG's work on this page - but all of them are really great shots. Tim's and Dehowie's are always way cool. And that Helo is too much. This is one of the better pages lately - but mostly cause its nearly all new guys and it just goes to show all of us old guys need to stay on our toes! Competition - if you call it that - is getting tough around here.

Mona Vie has fired a warning shot across Red Bull's bow with a new (healthy) energy drink. Released just a couple of weeks ago, has sold millions to date!

Someone over in the Canon forum noticed a few of my aviation shots and suggested I post here. My uncle owns several airplanes, and does quite a bit of formation flying in his T-6. So here are a few from the last time I went up with him. The bad news is- they are somewhat out of date (back from 2006). The good news- my wife and I are moving from the east coast back to MN (where family lives) and so I'll hopefully be flying and shooting much more in the near future! (Oh, and I'll be working on my PPL as well ). My uncle is the pilot of the #42 plane. I'd love to learn from those of you who have done photos in formation- it was quite a challenge- keeping the shutter speed slow enough for nice prop blur, but fast enough that the the shaking airplane/wind with the hatch back didn't blurt he image. C&C welcome:

Dear Mark,

Welcome! Nice opening salvo!! I don't think you'll have any problem honing your technique once you get back?

I'll be happy to help you with any fine points once you get back into it. In return, could you answer one question, why would anyone elect Al Franken to any post more significant than chief pooper scooper?

Thanks for the nice comment! As for your question- I have the alibi that I was a resident of another state for both the 2008 senate race, as well as when that Ventura character was elected.

... and don't worry... franken can be thrown out at the next election - and should be before then... i just hope they catch the guy who brought in all those forged ballots.

Boy - o - boy! I'm glad that page is over! So much nice work... and all of it aviation related too! Sweet!

Just finished up post on an assignment last Friday. A Dentist (i don't currently work for) wanted to update/create a new website. I've been seeing a shot like this in my mind and didn't know quite how to make it happen - I guess I got lucky... whatever that is!

Now I can get back to - PDK, Osh 08, Tyndall, Columbus, Pensacola, Alliance and GML... at least Reno and Marietta are finished!

Dear XHawkeye,

Too bad they couldn't have launched a bit earlier for you. Back in the old days we used to squeeze every bit of flying time out of events like that. Since fuel got crazy it seems, understandably, that everyone is in a rush to get up and down with minimum fuel burn. The 24 burns about $1.200 an hour at current rates and the CAF doesn't have two nickels to rub together, which is largely their own fault (another subject entirely). If I'm up in the Six just loafing, I can get her down to about 37 an hour, which translates to approx. $200.00 at TKI prices. Formation work brings that up a bit, so I figure $300 for an hour. None of that includes fixed costs like engine reserves, annual, insurance, which easily brings the hourly outlay to $500 plus an hour. That being said, all reason disappears when that Pratt begins to come to life.

Jim thanks for the $$$ values, knew it wasn't cheap. All I need to do is win the lottery a couple times so I can get my own Pratt.

You're definitely correct about all reason disappearing when a Pratt coughs to life.
