If it's "Kettering Hospital Network" then I know of them, and there's quite a few affiliates around. The two hospital networks in the area are expanding like mad, although the other one is closing their hospital in the west end of town by the end of this year. My schedules are posted a week at a time, so the more lead time I have, the more likely I can ask for the right day off. They're supposed to be posted by Wednesdays, and run Saturday through Friday for our workweek..

Laura, are you familiar with the Kettering Hospital? Looks like I have three or four projects in that area coming up. The way things are looking they will be the same kind of night and day continuous shooting schedules that I've been on for the last month so i'm not sure i'll have time to take a breath. If I do have a break, I'd love to buy you lunch. Right now it looks like I'll be there with the architect and designer and they are estimating three to four days of non-stop bop. These kinds of projects have a sliver of time between new/clean and trashed, obviously we want the former. Ideally, we get to shoot the day before the site is turned over to the owner, but "ideally" rarely happens in real life, as we all know so well....Show more →
So last week at the orthopedic clinic, doc took a look at the x-rays they took before the appointment, and said everything is healing well, go on about your business, come back in four weeks. Got curious this weekend and logged in and pulled up the xray report (that the doc didn't have) and the radiologist now says this:
""FINDINGS:
Mildly displaced ulnar styloid avulsion fracture. Similar nonspecific irregularity along the dorsal aspect of the distal radial metaphysis. Now evident is linear lucency along the radial styloid on the frontal view a with questionable extension into the radiocarpal joint. Radiocarpal joint space loss and degenerative changes. Osteoarthritis of the distal radial ulnar joint. The scapholunate and lunotriquetral intervals are within normal limits. Nonspecific soft tissue swelling of the wrist. ""
Called Ortho on Monday while hiding on a comfort break from the heat (101°F heat index) and was told it doesn't change the treatment, which is what I found out when googling it I do still wear the brace to protect me and remind me to not do certain movements, like flexing my hand down doesn't work completely, but going up is almost back to normal. At least I can keep working.
I used to have a very strong preference for twins, and hadn't paid that much attention to the Malibu/Mirage. Now though, if/when I can get my head out of my work long enough to resume flying frequently, that would be my ideal airplane. I love Piper's wide and comfortable cabins, and the Malibu/Mirage provides similar speed and better range (though less cargo space and payload) than my Cessna 414A did, and at a much lower cost per mile.
Hey buddy - good to hear from ya and thanks! And I couldnt agree more - PA-46 is one of my favorite airframes. Let me know when you're ready to buy!
A component of the video/cinema avenue that has been opening up for me has been a search for the proper lighting system. I've seen reviews on everything from LED's from Lowe's to Light Panels costing several grand each. Obviously showing up with a home made LED light system isn't my style, but once again I was in unfamiliar territory and didn't want to make an expensive mistake. Today I found what appears to be a perfect system of two panels, completely variable in intensity and color temperature, battery power or 110v, controllable on the panels or via a remote.
I'm going to spend some time with them later this week because, no sooner had I loaded them into my car, a call came in asking if I could do a video interview series with Roger Staubach at his office early next week. I think they'll be perfect! Weebeesee

Jim you never cease to amaze with how hard you work and how you continue to expand your business. I am certain that you will produce nothing less than a beautiful video for this interview series. As always keep us posted on this venture.
Good Morning Joe! Thank you for your kind thoughts!! I am truly Blessed to do something that I love and am excited about each and every day. This video/cinema thing was something that I probably never would have jumped into had it not been for Ross Jr.'s insistency. When our T-38 projects stalled and the aircraft was grounded for a major restoration I was a bit frustrated given the investment in time and $$$$. The projects we were so excited about have not come to fruition as of yet, and I'm not entirely sure they ever will, but the journey that began with that request has been invigorating and is beginning to pay off in spades.
The industry certainly has changed over the past few years. Previously, one would've been hard pressed to find a still photographer who was well versed in the art of video/cinema and vice versa. Much to the chagrin of people who have strictly shot video over the years, I'm thinking any still photographer who isn't seriously exploring the video/cinema end of the business is leaving a whole lot of money on the table, and it's fun!
OK, it is all Laura's fault. Here is another one. This has been one very busy A10. In case the angle makes them unclear, the bottom group of mission-related marking are bombs. The upper group are bullets and the small group forward of the other two are rockets. That is a LOT of fly'n and shoot'n. And too many in the Air Force would sell their souls to get rid of this fighting machine.
My friend Matt Byrd flew the A-10 for a while before being called into the F=117 test program and he loved the plane. Wonder what the deal is, especially given the fact that the powers that be are now thinking about dropping back to PT6 driven singles for similar tasks? Sure would like to pick up a "slightly used" Texan II for the hangar A Texan I and a Texan II side by side, now that would be a cool thing to see as the door comes up!
My, technology advances at a rapid pace! Much as I dislike sending money to DJI, I spent an hour looking at the Ronin S gimbal and it clearly appears to be the most advanced and capable version of the many options out there right now. I believe that I'll end up with a Movi Pro because nothing else can handle the Sony FS/7 as far as weight, but the Ronin S will handle all my DSLR gear and the PXW Z150 & Z280.
What a shame that company is so technically ingenious, yet they can't seem to bring their customer service put to any reasonable level of efficiency.

The big-bomber boys ruled the Air Force during the days that SAC was the big dog. Then came the Fighter Mafia, but they were more into "real" fighters. Close Air Support/Ground Attack has long (always?) been the stepchild. The A10 is slow and ugly and if Congress hadn't stepped in, it would have been gone years ago. Maybe the "powers that be" woke up and smelled the coffee. After all, the "vast majority" of combat missions being flown today are CAS/Ground Attack missions. (Stepping down from my soap box now.)
