So I did a pricing critique early in 2012, and hopefully I helped at least one person The thread was recently bumped, and honestly I don't know how many people I had missed in the process. Without it getting too messy in that thread I figured I'd start another one.
Instructions, please read this first!
Something I'm passionate about is sales, and how to increase sales for photographers. Far too many photographers are pricing themselves below profitability, but there are more pricing themselves below their potential. Post your website, and I'll guess how much I think people are spending based on:
-your presentation (website aesthetics, user interface, your first 5 images)
-your stated price (how much you are saying you charge)
I'll then present what I think you could be making with a few small changes.
If you're interested, post a link to your site!
NOTE: This is NOT based on your work, simply your presentation of information and STATED price. I'm trying to act like your client and get an idea of how much I would spend by hiring you. So, if what I post is lower than you expected, your clients might be getting the same vibe. If you expect clients to spend more than what you are getting, you might be communicating ineffectively on your site.
Rules
1. Please only post your website, not someone elses.
2. This isn't about ego stroking, so if you are upset/discouraged/happy/curious why I posted a given price range for your site, please don't take it personally I'm only trying to help and give suggestions on how to improve.
3. If you participated in the first one, this is still fair game, but I would like to get as many people as I couldn't help last time first.
4. If you use keywords in your link, I will NOT critique your site. Just post the URL, thats all

weddings - $2650-3000. You include a lot in the package and don't make it obvious that there could be upgrades, so they'll probably stick around the starting mark.
portraits - $300. You give them the disc and don't make it sound like something else would be better, so no reason to spend any more.
weddings - £900-£1650. You make it sound absolute, give it a feel that they could spend more. I hate the word "quote", its a major turn-off for me because it sounds like work and waiting is involved.
portraits - £145-£500. They might spend more, but giving them a top range might be hurting your sales.
You don't list any prices, so my guess would be $2500-3200 for weddings. Portraits probably low. This is just what I think a client would think.
Your homepage is a tad confusing on where I should go first...the typography is very diverse, and the main text of your site is really small AND all caps. This is very hard to read

Thank you Spencer, excellent points. In my price list I also give one package, which includes an album, disk, wedding, portrait session at £2000, I wonder if I should use this as the upper range... but once you start going above my current range I feel it's too obvious the other photographers out there are far better. Do you think words like bespoke, a la carte feel better?
I've never sold a portrait session, so if someone pays around that it would be great... I'm re-thinking products for portraits so I will look at adjusting the top range accordingly as well.
I like your landing page, but maybe have it automatically advance the slides? Took me a while to realize it wouldn't advance, and there isn't a visible button until you hover over it. Nice site!

thanks very much!!!!1
portraits - $200-350. When you say a $50 credit is included, you act like that will get them something significant. Not sure if thats the case
weddings - $1200-1600
