GSMNP. The Foothills Parkway east is past peak, but there is still color and lots of leaves on the trees. But, this might change this weekend after rain and a cold front moves through. The road to Cades Cove is past peak except for the area that has the beautiful yellow leaves every year which is at peak. I didn't take the Cades Cove loop road because traffic was backed up at the entrance even though it was midweek and midday. The road to Tremont is also past peak. You'll probably be able to find color somewhere in the park for another week or so. Fall is winding down folks.
Does anyone have any current info about the escarpment around Whitewater Falls, Dry Falls and Cullasaja Falls and over thru the Cherohala Skyway? I'll be near Fall Creek Falls next Monday, and I was wondering if it will be worth making a mad dash to these areas?
Doug, I haven't been to that area recently. I'll be in Highlands for Halloween but that is a week away. I think Travis Rhoads was there this past weekend so maybe he will help you out. I would think, just a guess, that Whitewater Falls would be near peak or just past now. Hard to say though because this year has been so strange. The weather this weekend is for some chance of rain then wind. I expect there won't be a lot left by the end of the month.

I was at Dry Falls and Cullasaja last weekend, both were very nice, but they were at or just past peak then. I don't have my photos of Dry Falls edited yet, we could barely see Cullasaja and didn't even take a photo...the scrub right next to the road was so overgrown that without parking in the road and doing an Anslel Adams, we would not have gotten a shot off...
