Very interesting. Tim from Carry Speed had mentioned this idea fleetingly when I had visited his office regarding their new carry strap, but I had no idea this was an actual product.

Well, apparently it's quite safe. I suppose Canon has put a proper shielding in their cameras since they have to go through security like Xray at the airport and that wand people use to find metal object on you.
Another thing to note is that magnets are completely safe to use around LCD screens and your SDHC or Compact Flash media cards.

Cameras yes, filters are reusable and lasts longer. I am using most of my BW filters for over 5 years already. Again, it is clever idea but not as practical to me. Same as my iPad magnetic covers ...

EBH: The magnet will be fine. The adhesive is a greater concern.

Soft iron magnets can lose their magnetism fairly quickly but these are probably rare earth and those are quite stable for decades.
This seems similar to those magnets Apple is using for iPad covers and that will also be used with the W8 tablets.
