I bought a used 28-70mm 2.8 af-s that works fine for awhile. Later it started to squeak, and finally died last week. It is on it's way to melville for repairs. I have had one proir to this copy that ,I bought new and sold. Never squeek. Is this a manufacturer defect on this lens that can re-occur after repair?. Should ,I sell it for 24-70mm. By the way I have 17-35 that is squeeking accasionally now.
I've never heard of it squeaking ... sounds like an issue with the AFS motor. I sold mine and got a 24-70, which I was much happier with.... even though the 28-70 was still a nice lens.
All the lenses with the 1st gen (AF-S I) motors seem to get the squeaking and die at sometime.
All the lenses I had, got a squeak, 17-35, 28-70, 80-200, 300/4. It seems to me if the lens sat unused for sometime it would get a squeak. Even my 200-400 VRI got a squeak and the less then a year old 300/2.8 VRII N got a squeak which I had to send in plus it also had a bad AF problem.
vert common with this lens. I went through the same thing, then my motor failed. Sent in for repairs, and its like new. This was a couple months ago and 142$ later. I love the lens too much to get the 24-70. My brother uses the 24-70 and its one sweet piece of glass. Altho this problem sucked, the overall build quality is like a tank,
Thanks guys. Well i might keep it when it comes back. Maybe I should send the 17-35 for check-up or wait until it dies, it does it once awhile and goes away.. I love this lenses but the defect scares me since they out of warranty.
