Would like to see a little pop of flash to bring out these eyes, but that is personal preference. #2 has more dimension IMO. These photos made me smile, great shots and thanks for sharing.
Thanks guys. Yes, I was outside and the subject was inside
I'm guessing I was about 4 or 5m away and the door was about halfway! (exif says 390/100 for subject distance - what does that translate to?)
I think I prefer #2 - just has a bit more to it. I really like the look of these, a nice dreamy feel. I'm sure it will get used for some portraits in the future
Very nice. I'd like to personally strongly disagree with the "pop of flash" comment. Even with a large soft box or something, flash highlights in the eyes often ruin a natural light portrait for me. They virtually always look artificial - thus detracting from a natural portrait.
I agree that a 'pop of flash' could potentially cause the photo to look artificial. Perhaps a reflector to add more light on the eyes is a way to go if one deems necessary? (for me the photo is fine.)
Thanks again guys. Weather is still dreary. So might have to do some more portraits this week. I might try a reflector. I did consciously refrain from trying to lift the eyes in post.
